  1. I recently did a very long trailer trip (2,600km) with a Thruster. During the trip I damaged the texleflex morse cable which goes to the aileron. I am talking to Tony Hayes about this and we will be saying more about this in the future. But at this point it does seem that the end of the cable was loose and bounced around quite a lot and this caused the cable to fracture. Does any one know wher I can sourse teleflex morse cables. I have seen a few marine suppliers but these seem to supply only very long cables. I really want to fly - but not an option without these cables!
  2. I was thinking of maybe having the hanger two aircraft deep with sliding doors on each side of the hanger. I am trying to achieve minimal movement of aircraft when one aircraft is removed. thanks for the reply
  3. I am thinking of building a hanger. I would like to build one that would take either 6 or 8 average sized RAA type aircraft. Could anyone give me some idea of the size I should be building. Also has anyone got any tips for layout - door type and arrangement etc. Thanks.
  4. Thats a long one Tony - I make that about 6000 km round trip. It would be great to get a copy of the video - does anyone out there have a copy? In the October RAA magazine on page 17 Carol Richards makes mention of a Thruster trip from Port Augusta to Birdsville. That would be about 1800 km round trip. As anyone done an East to West crossing of Australia in a Thruster? Scott
  5. Still don't have mine up in Cairns - not in the newsagents either!
  6. Thanks Ozzie. The Townsville to the tip sounds great - and right in my part of the world - I live in Cairns. I have just looked at the Queensland Country Airstrip Guide - there are plenty of airfields and homesteads with runways up there so it is still quite possible. But a very gutsy trip to say the least. Getting fuel would (and still would) be difficult I think. The logistics of a break down would have been a nightmare! It would be a great part of the world to make such a trip. Do you know if they had a ground grew following them? I make that about 2700km - so is that the longest trip a thruster has ever done - I bets its not! All the best Scott
  7. Hi Skyhog - I am going really well. I am tall (and wide) so I was not thinking of doing too many long trips myself. I am hoping to fly my TST locally mainly. It would be interesting to know about some of the epic trips made in Thrusters. I seem to remember Eugene Reid from Tasmania doing a very long trip in his. I think he has crossed over to the main land in his. I thought that in the early days some brave soles may have made some really great trips. All the best Scott
  8. I am new to Thrusters. I am just in the process of buying a TST. I was wondering what are some of the great trips that Thrusters have done in the past? I am sure that such a great little aircraft with such a long history has done many great things. For example have they ever flown around the world, from Australia to the UK, around the coast of Australia? Is here any one out there still making long epic journeys? Scott
  9. Many thanks I will look into both of these. I a ma not sure why I did not think of the truck. I have re-located cars from South to North for my kids before - I will see if they will take a car with the Thruster. Again many thanks Scott
  10. I have just purchased a Thruster (with trailer) which is based in Wollongong. I live in Cairns - you can see I have a bit of a problem! I do have an old ute which I think would just about make it down there and back - but I would rather fly commercial. I am having problems finding anywhere in the Sydney area that would rent me a car with a tow bar that I could drop off in Cairns. Plenty of cars for one way rental - but none with a tow bar. Some commercials with tow bars - but not for one way rentals. If I could do it this way I am hopeful that I could have the time on the way back and have a lesson or two with Tony Hayes. Does anyone have any ideas? Regards Scott
  11. Hi welcome. I only joined last week. This really is a great site. I have been away from flying for about 3 years and am just getting back into it. Like you I was addicted from an early age. The great thing about RAA is that it enables just about anyone to haver a go. All the best Scott
  12. I agree Keith - it is really impressive. It really is a very nice aircraft all together.
  13. Did not get to Dunk Hi Keith I just got back from flying with Ron. Lots of rain to the south of Innisfail so we did not get down to Dunk. So I did some low level flying for my low level endorsement - great fun. I remembered you to Ron. He says hello. I know all about the rotor on Dunk. I took my Piper Cherokee 160 over there a few years ago. The wind sock at the resort end of the run way gets caught by the rotor and gives a false indication. I ended up doing a downwind take off on a very hot day (and short run way). Just managed to get her off before the fence. Not nice! I was told when I got back to Cairns that you should use the wind sock at the other end of the run way. All the best Scott
  14. Hi Keith. I am hoping to fly with ron tomorrow. we are planning to go over to Dunk Island for a coffee. No many places you can do that for the cost of 1 hours flying! How was the J160? Hope to catch up with you some time. Scott
  15. Thanks Mathew. Do you have an aircraft based at Innisfail? I agree FNQ is a great place to live and fly! I am sure we will meet up at some point. Scott
