  1. Back when I first started shearing ( nearly 50 years ago ) Lister motors were common in shearing sheds driving overhead gear. There was a long overhead shaft the length of the shearing board that the shearing stands down tubes were driven off by a large pully and cone drive. The shaft was driven by the Lister motor with a flat belt. I can still smell the fumes and hear the " choof choof " of the old motor, the steam coming out of the old 44 gallon drum full of water used for cooling. They were bullet proof and ran on the smell of an oil rag.

  3. Call me dumb ! Why couldn't you dig a ramp in front of the rear wheels as there is plenty of clearance . Make a steel ramp that the aircraft can ride onto , use a tug and the planes own thrust to ease it out of the bog . I've been bogged a thousand times on the farm and once you reduce the incline and provide a solid surface the amount of effort to remove the bogged machine is minimal. But who uses common sense!
  4. That makes sense............If you are not up to standard you wouldn't pass a BFR. I think I'll just go with a non flying membership. Maybe when a few more aircraft come on the market at a reasonable price I might consider buying. There were so many aircraft for sale to choose from before Covid , I don't know where they all went ! thanks for the info Ando 👍
  5. Thanks Roscoe, I will probably do as you suggested. My concern is whether I will be able to return to flying with only a renewed full membership and a BFR ( with a few lessons to get back my skills ) I'll give RAA a call and sort it out, cheer's.
  6. Thanks, Sorry, I thought Kyneton was in the process of introducing fees. Before Covid I was going to come over and do my RPL in your Cessna as you were recommended by a friend. (bloody Covid !) Cheer's.
  7. I have hardly flown since Covid started........ only a few hours. If I wanted to get back into an aircraft I would need a couple of hours refresh with an instructor even though I'm still current with all requirements. I have made the decision to take a break from flying for the following reasons: To hire an aircraft I have to pay membership of my local flying club. Hire rates have increased making it a very expensive past time. I now require an ASSICS card to use the airport ( Bendigo ) The airport has gone from a small country airport to having regular Quantas link flights and all the BS that goes with it. They now charge landing fees and so do most of the nearby airports that I used to fly to (Echuca, Kyneton, Shepperton.........etc. I have found other interests during Covid that are far cheaper and less hassle. I still want to retain my RAA Pilot Certificate so I could return to flying if I change my mind in the future. What I need to know is can I keep my licence without a required BFR, and if so how long do I have before my licence would be canceled. thanks in advance Butch.

  11. Have to agree Nev, I have hardly flown since covid started. Going to hire an aircraft with no one at the club house and nobody wanting to go for a flight with you has made me lose interest in flying. Being a low hours pilot I am now starting to lose my confidence even though I'm current with everything. I am now turning my interests to things that are less expensive and less hassle to do. I really love flying but I'm at the crossroad whether to continue in the future. Hopefully if covid gets sorted out the passion will return.

  13. They don't work quiet as well as the people selling them will tell you ! As for Kangaroos ........Lead at high velocity is the only solution !
  14. This is not an Ultralight with a frame , probably a canopy stuck up a tree !
  15. Simple answer! Don't get yourself into a situation that you need these skills. I know...... it can still happen.....then what do you do. As Nev said it takes years of experience before you are able to control this scenario with confidence. I like playing CHICKEN ! I just stay inside the safety envelope that we have been trained to do.
