  1. Heartbreaking details emerge after teen pilot killed in plane crash near Sydney | 7NEWS
  2. As I recall, no time limit, to delete, for first class members! no delete function at all, for ordinary members and if there is, I can`t find it!!! Franco.
  3. I`ve made mistakes a couple of times, when posting and really not happy that I couldn`t delete the post and start again! I prefer to be able to delete the post, myself! why the need for a moderator to delete? Franco.
  4. Well I`ll be!!! a blast from the past. From top left! Bob Harris, Cecil Anderson, Gordon Bradley! bottom left, Geoff Yelaska and Franco Arri! a band I put together, 60 years ago, when I was 15 years old, that we called, 'The Crew', very popular at the time. Franco.
  5. Another one I did this last 2 weekends! This is Lisa O`Mara, coordinator of the Mulgrave Landcare Group, who are doing a tree planting project, here on our property. As my wife Frances and I are no longer farming we decided to let 90ha of our 100ha property go back to nature, as we call it! 2 years ago the Mulgrave Landcare Group and the Wanyurr Majay, Aboriginal Corporation (traditional owners), started a tree planting project, here on our property and, to date, 15,000 native species trees, have been planted and the project is ongoing. Please note! at the end of the video, Lisa says "we flew through the clouds"! rest assured that we didn`t fly through any cloud, but we certainly did fly around some. Franco.
  6. This lady in video is Natarsha! Natarsha, with her husband and daughter, moved into our area 4 years ago! She`d been watching me fly and thought that one day she would like to try! this last weekend she decide to have a go...You tell me if she enjoyed. We`ve had an enormous amount of rain, already this year and a couple of patches, on the strip were still a bit wet, but that`s nothing new for me to have to deal with! Franco.
  7. This is what Sam said on facebook! I forgot to put it in my post. Sam Churchward Thanks so much! This was an incredible experience, the drifter is a joy to fly and you couldn't ask for more spectacular scenery.
  8. In the last 2 weekends I`ve had 5 people wanting to experience Drifter flying with me! this is one of the flights I did. This is Sam Churchward and his partner, Taiga! Sam is from Melbourne! he`s a Commercial and also an RAA pilot. Sam found me on facebook and decided he wanted to have a fly of the Drifter, so, as he was flying up to Cairns for the weekend he took advantage of the situation, so I was able to take him and Tagia, flying. This was Sam`s first go at the Drifter! after I demonstrated a few stalls, I let Sam fly me around and I was quite impressed with his ability. Franco! https://youtu.be/0DtoG7zJFwk
  9. G`Day Nev! I`ve flown the SB 582! the main difference between the Austflight Aviation built, SB 582 and the WB with a 582, is the SB usually comes with a large nose pod which makes it heaver and creates more drag! it really depends on how you want to fly! mine is the Austflight Aviation WB and I have the small nose pod! I want maneuverability. The Specterum Aviation WB Drifters built by Wane Fisher are usually lighter than the Austflight Drifters, but the one for sale has a full front bubble canopy, so, there`s no point trying to compare it to the Austflight Drifters, without first having flown it! I`ve never flown one. Franco.
  10. If I`ve understood you correctly, I have to say I agree! Agree again! why I said in a previous post the RAA needs to determine exactly which direction they want to go, for the future...As I understand it, an AC weight increase to 750 kg has been approve and 1,500 kg has been approved, in principle! either they become the new GA or they go back to some basics because I can`t see many of the younger guys, wanting to become RAA instructors, because they`ve just made it too difficult and expensive. A bit off topic, I know, but that one took me back to when I was being checked out for my instructor certificate, by our then, AUF ops manager! he told me, I need to be able to instruct to a standard required to fly into Camden Airport and of course! I thought that was unrealistic as there was no one I knew who wanted to fly ultralight aircraft, into Camdem airport! well! the AUF is now the RAA and unfortunately! with so many pilots coming over to RAA from GA, wanting all the privileges of GA, and students wanting those privileges, also, it`s understandable that instructors do need to be able to instruct to that standard. The way I see it, RAA won`t be getting too many new instructors, any time soon! I sincerely hope, I`m wrong. Franco.
  11. Of course! because, a lot of instructors would be older than me! how long could instructors be expected to continue? just look at the age of most of the RAA members! without the younger generations replacing us mature guys and gals, I would think it`s inevitable that at some point the RAA will cease to exist. Well! first of all! they could decide exactly, in which direction they wish to go! If it`s only for the modern LSA, then in my opinion, they may as well be the new G.A. because there arn`t too many of the younger generation who could afford the training, let alone the aircraft. Off topic, I know! but! Thank you! I appreciate it. I don`t post all of my videos on youtube, most are on my facebook page and a couple of other sites that I am a member of! the Drifter Aircraft Appreciation Society, being one of them...https://www.facebook.com/groups/1419567688295037 Franco...https://www.facebook.com/franco.arri
  12. Yeah! well! the only RAA instructor, in my area, that I`m aware of, was charging $350 per hr! I was told by one of his students. Is that too much or not enough? depend on his overheads, I suppose! I reckon he`d say, it`s not enough!!!! Franco.
  13. Hi trailer, I`m pleased you`ve raised the subject! Just a bit about me for those who don`t know me! I started flying Ultralight aircraft, 40 years ago, in the early days of the Australian Ultralight Federation (A.U.F.), now Recreational Aviation Australia (R.A.A.)! I`ve been a paid-up member for all those years and remain current. I worked my way up to AUF, CFI, rating and ran my own, C.A.A. and A.U.F, approved flying school, off my property, for 12 years, before retiring from instructing, several years ago! I turned 75 years of age on the first of January, this year! I still fly my Drifter, regularly and take passengers with me. Yes! I have noticed the loss of R.A.A. flying schools and there are numerous reasons for this! The R.A.A is no longer what the A.U.F. was, intended to be! in my opinion, R.A.A. is heading to be the new GA, if it isn`t, already. It`s some of both of those things! here is just a section of the R.A.A. current operations manual, for the requirements of obtaining a, instructor rating, then there is, Senior and finally! C.F.I. rating! that may allow you to establish your own Flight Training Facility, so, hopefully, one day, you will get back the $$$$$ spent on obtaining the certificates. Copied from R.A.A. ops manual 7.1.1 SECTION 2.08 INSTRUCTOR RATING – GROUP A AND B. fly the aeroplane accurately and safely in each sequence to the standards set out in the RAAus Syllabus of Flight Training. AERONAUTICAL EXPERIENCE 4. Prior to undertaking an in-flight examination for the issue of an Instructor Rating, an applicant must: a. have completed the RAAus Instructor Training Course or an approved equivalent, that includes: (i) a minimum of 20 hours dual in-flight instruction in a recreational aeroplane of the same Group; and (ii) a minimum of 30 hours ground instruction, which includes the PMI course required by Subparagraph 1.(d) of this Section and practice formal briefings; and (iii) a minimum of 5 hours of the in-flight instruction required under subparagraph 4.(a) (i) of this Section must be completed with a CFI or PE approved by the Head of Flight Operations as an Instructor Trainer (IT). The remainder of the in-flight instruction may be completed by a Senior Instructor, (who has been approved by the Head of Flight Operations), acting under the IT; and b. have a minimum of 100 hours as pilot-in-command of recreational aeroplane in the same Aeroplane Group for which the rating is sought; or c. if having recognised flight time as a Pilot or Instructor from a recognised organisation other than RAAus, satisfy the requirements of Section 2.13 Paragraphs 8 and 9 of this manual. Franco! Ps, Ok Guys! hands up, those who want to become an R.A.A. instructors?
  14. Ok Guy! Keep in mind yesterday I said " I was told, one person on board, was thrown through the windscreen and was lying on the ground several mts from the AC". Today, I contacted the guy who told me that, again! had a good long talk with him and he assures me, that is correct! From what I`ve been told, it looks like a stall, spin, into the ground, from a low-level turn, following some engine problems. That`s all I`m prepared to say at this point. Franco.
  15. Had a good chat to the guy who sent me the photos! he gave me a very interesting account of the accident...I was told, one person on board, was thrown through the windscreen and was lying on the ground several mts from the AC. Franco Ps, Waiting to get more factual, information.
