  1. Thanks all for the responses- I'm going with the option to move the pedals forward. Spoke to Peter Gillespie who says he has longer push rods in stock to make it happen.
  2. Hi all Ive just bought a 2007 build Savannah VG My first and probably only aircraft - The plane is in good condition and has the 4 fuel tanks, solid rod throttle linkages, tundra tyres and of course fixed seats. Here's my problem. I'm 182cm tall and just fit my knees /shins under the bottom edge of the instrument panel. The seating position is safe and gives me rudder pedal and toe brake control but my I won't be comfortable for more than an hour or so ( and yes I've been told my bladder won't last that long so what's the prob?) So I'm putting it out there Has anyone modded their VG seats to get more leg room and if so how? The nose wheel steering linkage seems to preclude moving the pedals any further forward and the bulkhead aft of the seats limits their repositioning not to mention implications of aircraft CofG if they could be moved I could always trade up to a Sav S but show me one that for sale ?
  3. I've been watching the Savannah market for over 2 Covid years now. My first venture into the Savannah buyers market saw me bomb out on the "he who hesitates is lost". After negotiations with the seller I wanted a LAME to check out the aircraft which was in SA. A local snapped it up before the LAME could get to see it - However I'm looking at another VG on the market now but have come across a few new questions that I'm hoping you all can assist with. 1.This VG had the 5 year hose replacement done a couple of years ago but only for the firewall forward. That to me left the question of the lines from the fuel tanks ( 4 tanks ). Should they have been done as part of the 5yr or are they rolled over on inspection for the aircraft life? I've seen posts of members retrofitting inspection ports to the underside wing to allow fuel line access. Is this what it takes to replace fuel lines aft of the firewall ? 2. This aircraft has stock tyres/rims - so will Condor 600:6 tyres fit the VG stock rims including nose wheel yoke? 3. The aircraft also has electric flaps and trim but no flap or trim position indicator- so is this the normal setup for VG's with electric flaps - presumably press the switch and watch the flaps extend to where you want them? thanks- in anticipation of your responses
  4. Thank you all for the posts regarding my queries - If you have time here are a few more questions that I'm trying to figure out. The aircraft I'm buying is a kit build that is almost complete as built by the original buyer. It's now wiring , major component assembly and engine However the kit was purchased aprox 8 years ago and before what I believe is the current RAAUs requirement for progressive build inspections by an L4. In which case am I heading for a big headache with construction inspection and certification at rego time as fuselage wings and tailplane are all assembled? Re my query about Rotax rebuilds at 2000hrs . So at 2000hrs a non certified Rotax can still fly "on condition" but is that as assessed by the owner or is a LAME required to validate every 100 hours thereafter? thanks
  5. Thanks Kyle- for the tek info and the clips link- after some of those STOL landings I think my 380 metre strip look too long :) One further question - looks like you've done a lot with Rotax engines. Given that Ive been advised the Rotax bottom end is good for up to 5000hrs. Would you recommend a full strip and reco at 2000 hrs or just buy a new motor?
  6. Hi All Been a member for years but this is my first post so apologies if I'm in the wrong forum. I am a prospective Savannah VG buyer because of its STOL performance but have some tech queries if you can assist 1. Can the VG be upgraded to 600Kg MTOW or is it limited to the 540Kg U/G kit/ 2. If you fit tundra tyres is that an engineering mod that requires an engineering sign off or is it a builder elective? 3. Short field landing performance - I have only one possible landing area on my farm due terrain . Its a one way grass strip 3 degrees slope 380 metres long. Land uphill Takoff down Having never had the opportunity to fly in a savannah I only have the flight manual as a performance reference . Does a 380 metre strip give a reasonable safety margin for a VG T/O and Land at MTOW? thanks
  7. Been an avid reader since 2010 but little flying experience so not much to offer forum wise However now I'm doing my Navs - RaAus style . 2 hrs up 10 + to go and now over 100 hrs in the log book Love all the posts rgds supacat
