  1. Gull wing still may not be able to be opened either. That said, the Liberty XL2 which has gull wing doors, also has a small hammer that comes free .... provided you buy a plane. I also noted that you can access the hinges (quick release pins) from inside the aircraft with the aid of a Phillips head screw driver To remove a cover, so I suspect it may be possible to eject the whole door in some circumstances and avoid the need to hack your way out with the emergency hammer. the only negative is that the fuel tank is inside the fuselage aka a Europa so i don’t think you want to spend too much time in there inverted
  2. AvPlan and I assume OzRunways allows you to ‘draw’ on your map (annotate) so you can combine “old skool“ with your EFB. I draw on things like radio calls and L / R hand ccts. Under settings, select annotate and then you can draw, erase etc.
  3. Latest update states that you can take off and land within regional VIC (as opposed to just Mitchell Shire), but its still a bit ambiguous as recreation does not meet the 4 reasons to leave home? Like most, I'll just read the part that I like, Yes I can fly in regional VIC...just need to work out my route to the airport :-) https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/travel-regional-victoria-covid-19#can-i-fly-a-plane-for-recreation-or-take-a-flying-lesson From 11:59pm, 5 August 2020 if you live in regional Victoria, Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions apply. Under the new restrictions there are only four reasons that you can leave home: to shop for food and essential goods or services to provide care, for compassionate reasons or to seek medical treatment to exercise for work or study, if you can’t do it from home Can I fly a plane for recreation or take a flying lesson? Yes. Flying for recreation is allowed but only with one other person, or members of your household. If flying with someone who is not from your household, you must be able to maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres from that other person and you and your passenger or instructor must wear a face covering. You should only depart or land at airports within regional Victoria. Recreational flying and flying lessons are not permitted within metropolitan Melbourne. You can also fly for practice, with a flying instructor or a member of your household.
  4. The broker was really helpful and honest. Appears that my current insurance probably compares quite well to the local deal for Monduran club members anyway, although I was not able to take advantage of it regardless as you need to hangar within 100Nm unfortunately. if I was local, I suspect I would have insured via them.
  5. I looked at the Wang Acft, but at 6’2” and 105kg found it a bit cramped. Never flew it. I purchased a Liberty XL2` for not much more and it is better with respect to ergonomics and avionics and I think flies beautifully. still interested in the glider version of the Europa but as said, I’m a bit tall and bit wide :-)
  6. The stupid thing about these conspiracy theories is that these ppl look for all these little ‘potential‘ discrepancies but fail to acknowledge the elephant in the room, that there were literally thousands of ppl all watching it unfold real time, and not just on TV. There is NOTHING REMOTELY SENSIBLE about the conspiracy theories. Has anyone ever tried to accomplish something even remotely complex? It never works as planned. In the Army we would say the strategic plan only gets you to the point of crossing the line of departure. After that you will be reacting to what ever was thrown at you and playing it by ear all the way to the objective. if the planes that EVERYONE saw hit the building did not bring it down, then what did? Explosives rigged in the basement? ...oh hang on, anyone watching this saw that the top floors imploded and then the weight of that collapse cascade down the building. I was watching a news anchor talk about blah blah, and on the screen behind them you got to see the building start to implode. It was amazing and crazy knowing there were still people inside. the most amazing thing is that the somewhat basic plan by the terrorist actually worked on any level, from taking control of the aircraft, to actually hitting the building to having it collapse.
  7. Same same. If a site does not offer PayPal, I won’t use the site. They know that PayPal will refund the money so I suspect they avoid letting the user pay via PayPal
  8. What’s a student doing up in 60 kts odd of wind? Wow
  9. For the BT to pickup another phone, it has to be searching ALL OF THE TIME. If BT is off, it will never pickup proximity. So the App would need to be running with BT searching and then pairing with a phone within 1.5m for x minutes. Hence I expect this will impact battery life. If it doesn't, then they should sell that code because it will be worth a small fortune.
  10. I prefer AvPlan, but OzRWYS not bad either. I have used it portrait and landscape, but tend to prefer landscape. I'm not flying at 250kts so plenty of time to see far enough ahead to be useful and I prefer the data ribbon orientation across the top. Plus it just fits the available real estate better in landscape. I also use a RAM mount. They are fantastic. I use one in my truck with a suction cup, but the one in the plane is bolted to the panel.
  11. ....Although, the 50,000 cancer deaths are spread across a population of 24M odd, not across your nearest and dearest. I personally have no direct relationship (friend or family) with anyone that has died from cancer (that I am aware of), in recent times. Had plenty of friends and family die, but cancer was not identified as the culprit although most certainly could have been there, ready to take them had they not crashed their bike (as an example). I had 1 mate die of cancer at age 32 thereabouts. I am somewhat pragmatic and don’t believe we need to save everyone at any cost. I also think the current result could have been achieved with far less economic pain than has been done had government reacted swiftly and targeted the actual problem, ie the imported virus. As an island, we had a perfect opportunity to close borders and ENFORCE quarantine. Instead of using precision guided munitions, we chose to allow ppl to ‘self isolate’ and we carpet bombed the entire country with draconian restrictions which in the most part did very little, apart from cause significant collateral damage to our economy. This is not with the benefit of hindsight either, I was saying that when this was first identified as a threat and I am sure plenty of others saw the same opportunity squandered.
  12. If you have already made it to the airport, you are already in breach, so you may as well go for a quick spin. You cannot be more in breach I suppose ;-)
  13. Feels like it has shut down anyway. I flew local out of Mangalore last night, zero airline chatter. The only aircraft I heard was an ultralight at Yarrawonga who called Airservices to make sure someone was home. Like me, he was also surprised how quiet it was.
