Finished the 100 hourly on the Rotax Friday and did a nice flight up the Heathrow (Qld), 40 nmls each way and back to Marian Airfield. Good weather for this time of year. Missed the lunch Ian and Julie had planned for the Whitsunday Flyers and friends as I had another commitment at lunch time. Cheers Mike

Hi folks

I've recently found this forum and joined up. I'm in a UK Nynja syndicate.

It's very interesting to read about the differences between UK and Oz based aircraft, particularly Nynjas, great photos too!

Heres a link to a youtube video of our build in 2015.

cheers

Hi JM

Welcome to the forum and the Skyranger threads. They are a great way to get ideas and share ideas. I found the threads a great help during the build. Nice video and good its from start of build to fly. Look forward to some more videos, images or stories.

At present I'm chasing up info about the CKT exhaust as one pipe runs close to the oil filter and I need to loosen the exhaust nuts and move the pipe a bit to get the oil filter removed. On the Rotax forum a couple have said they purchased a new pipe from CKT but when I emailed them they said they do not make a modified pipe and they have forwarded my email query to Paul D as thier distributer. I will be re Kopper Koting the exhaust ball joints soon so will try and offset the exhaust more to the port side then. Just wonder what you do at oil change time or other remedys over your way.

Best Regards

Mikie

Mike:

Do your exhaust pipes have the pressed metal ball ends or the machined ends? I had a lot of trouble with my exhaust system leaking and wrote to CKT. They sent me a new set of pipes w ith machined ball ends. The pressed ends tend to distort during welding and it is difficult to get them to seal in the sockets on the muffler.

As for solving the oil filter issue, I didn't get that far with my Nynja. You might have to resort to having that pipe modified locally. I'm sure that Paul would be well aware of the problem with the oil filter as he designed the system that CKT produce. I can't understand why they haven't solved that yet. I don't think cowling or equipment clearances would prevent a fix.

Hi Scott I have the same as the later one (As shown on bottom of your image). I may do a mod to my pipe as I have a tig welder, can purge whilst welding and make a jig so the finished product all lines up; however that's a bit of mucking around to get perfect so presently trying to purchase a modified pipe from CKT.

I'm sure even with the muffler pushed to the port side as much as possible is nowhere near as good as a redesigned pipe that allows for the muffler to hang in its preffered place and having the pipes connect with a healthy clearance to the relevant pipe beside the oil cooler (about 10mm would be my choice). Such would be great for all present and future owners of CKT exhausts on Rotaxs.) The CKT people make a great product and perhaps thier is not enough supply demand to tool up for a remake of that pipe. I'm waiting for Paul D's email and I'm keen to hear what he recommends as he is the most experienced person with these fitups.

I'm almost all ready for the nice flying season ahead so won't swap redesign of exhaust pipe for flying at the moment. It's no trouble to remove the exhaust at oil filter removal time; just a painfull extra task when a simple redesign would sort things for all existing and new Rotax sysyems.

Great to view your video; great stuff as usual. See you at The Old Station flyin and I plan to get to OZkosh as well this year.

Regards

Mike

Video of the flight with Wayne L going past the aircraft at Lakeside over Easter during takeoff and landing on 04 which was downhill with the usual crosswind.

Mike:

Brilliant landing on that narrow runway with that crosswind! Wow, I'm impressed!

The Skyranger Nynja gets most of the credit; a great responsive aircraft that where you put it it goes without vices. Good positive control feel. Every time I fly I think what a shame it is that they are not available as factory built so they can get into flight schools; that way more people could experience the type. Regards Mike

This weekend I was needing to adjust my prop on the Nynja's Rotax 912ULS2 aiming for between 5,500 and 5,600 rpm. I originally had it at WOT level flight 5,375 rpm then recently while doing the engines 100 hourly I re-pitched to 19 deg giving WOT 5,750 level flight - this was too fine now. To redo the pitch setting I needed a better tool so I made the following and it works great allowing easy placement and good judgement of the pitch angle degree. I happy with this 'mk1' version. Now at 20 degrees for the DUC propeller. Looking forward to a flight next weekend to see the results as getting ready to do some trips. Cheers

Completed two good flights in the Nynja recently one trip to The Old Station flyin. For those that could not get there the video includes some footage. My computer died so could not correct the out of sequence shorts. Anyhow you will get the gist.

I have just completed the annual inspection and had a nice flight today before the rain showers arrived.

Finished the annual service and fitted the factory skyranger nynja coolant pipes that I purchased form UK for the 912. Also fitted exhaust heat protection for the hose connection areas. All going well will have a fly on Saturday. (The golden brown colour of the heat wrap in places is a different brand being used at that area.)

Flew the Skyranger Nynja for WUFI (2017 World Ultralight Fly-In day ) day this morning; sides opened up for the breeze. 1.1 hours around the local Marian / Pioneer Valley area. Had not flown for a month due to flu and being away offshore with work. The engine ran sweet and the Nynja was a delight as usual. Conditions were hazy. Cheers and safe flights.

Gary (Garfly and fellow SkyRanger pilot) from the forum was in Mackay so we did a local 2 hours in the SkyRanger Nynja to show him some of the area between Marian to Lakeside Airpark, Heathrow and up the Pioneer valley. Weather was nice for flying and not many other aircraft hear over the radio. I'm sure Gary enjoyed seeing the area and when he's back up this way I'll fly the other ares to the south and west. Earlier in the week it looked like things would be touch and go with the rain and storms around but the last three days all the rain and storms to the west and north of here. Cheers

Thanks Mike, a fantastic flight in your beautiful Nynja; a nice conclusion to this RecAv NQ tour.

It's been great familiarisation for a future grand tour of Queensland on Skyranger wings.

(Where else are you gonna learn to always give way to sugar-trains on taxiways? ;-)

Hi Gary See you next time. We'll explore to the west and south next time as its a great flight out to Nebo and back via Temple Island and Sarina. Thanks for the images and the write up it was a great day. I posted an image of the dash mark I put on the windscreen that is my reference to the horizon when all three wheels are on the ground and the lower dot is my reference / reminder to lift the nose so the dot is at horizon or above that way no chance of doing a wheel barrow. You can see the dash in the cloud line and the dot is below and not real clear in the image. I did this for my first solo flights in the Nynja and have left them there since. I believe it helps nail the landing set downs; with the nose well off the deck. Cheers

Had a short 36 minute flight local area today to give myself and the Nynja a fly. Blusterly hot north west winds; never any good for low level flying or fishing in these parts. Although nice conditions above 2,500 ft. Have a nice new years eve and look forward to catching up in 2018.

Every time you post pics of your flying, I miss my Nynja.Have a really great 2018 Mike.

Agree and understand absolutely there a great bird to fly; a credit to the Skyranger people; just a same not factory built so some could be placed in flight training schools. Weather up here was worse today not a day to be flying if you had a choice. You guys have a great 2018 and expect we'll catch up at Thangool in late May if not somewhere else before then. Got my BFR due in a little over two weeks time so just a quick flight yesterday and go through a few slow manoeuvres to hone up the circuit skills etc. Cheers and best wishes; Mike

Had the Nynja's first flight from its new home in nice flying conditions before work today. I would have liked to have had a full day off and go for a longer flight with the good weather at present. The local area is to the west of Palmyra Airfield, Mackay. The airstrip is a 700 meter sealed strip so will allow flights in the wet season when grass airfield can be water logged for a while. The small town in the last image is Eton. Cheers
