A new Nynja in the area

Yep its a great community there and every thing is well maintained. 700 meters of sealing and rolled nice and smooth. cu you up here some time. Cheers.

Had the Nynja's first flight from its new home in nice flying conditions before work today. I would have liked to have had a full day off and go for a longer flight with the good weather at present. The local area is to the west of Palmyra Airfield, Mackay. The airstrip is a 700 meter sealed strip so will allow flights in the wet season when grass airfield can be water logged for a while. The small town in the last image is Eton. Fitted in a nice flight today around the Pioneer Valley area in the spirit of ANZAC. Flew over some mates property. The last bit at 4,000 rpm as I had the GoPro going to shoot some video. The Nynja fly's sweet as usual and I look forward to a trip away and visit in near future. Tried the Gopro under the back for a wheels view of the flight yesterday.  The location of the mount is a little bouncy so I'll move it some time to a more rigid position.  Conditions were great.  Being on call with work I needed to stay in the local area so I'd be back at the field in 30 minutes.  Did another flight today and the weather was not as good; that's flying.  Good fun all the same.  Sandy flew with me today so that was another highlight.  Cheers

Fitted in an early morning flight with a mate who was in town running a course. Needed to be early and with a bit of early rain on the coast we gave it a go. DI done under lights before sunrise and when the sun rose we got going. Ran a few scuds but nice silky air down low and 20 kts from SE above. Did an hour only as had commitments at harbour after 8am. Tried out the wheel jack I bought from Peter Anson and fitted an attachment unit for location under the Nynja's undercarriage.  All worked a treat.  The jack is a nice light piece of engineering by Peter Anson.  The lift takes one arc movement and the lever is over centre retained in the raised position.  Cheers

Had a nice 2 hours plus flight on Sunday to the south of Mackay and caught up with some flying friends, who were on their way back from Watts Bridge via a dew nice airstrips over a few days, for a cuppa.  The recent early morning rain before sunrise cleared the skies.  Now have 140 hours on the Nynja and looking forward to putting on some more over the next few weeks.

Rudder bungee. Just for info. I've recently been adjusting the Nynja's rudder trim. I should have adjusted it sooner. I needed to put light right rudder pressure to keep ball in centre. After two more flights today I now have the bungee at 46mm to port of my centre reference. Ball is now centred and flys hands off great. To get at the bungee I fitted an inspection hatch which I salvaged from an old damaged glider 'Blanik L13' wing I had a few years back. I had two of these hatches. I put one at the rear under fuse during the build, were the access hole is. The one I fitted this week under the bungee makes adjustment easy and quick. I put some yellow paint dots either side of the bungee position so I can see if its ever moves off position. Best regards Mike

I just love seeing those hatches on your Ninja Mike.   That really makes it perfect.   Do you have a hanger at Palmyra these days?  I gave up the full size flying and don't have any plans to get back in to it at least any time soon but would love to visit and have a look at your machine with my RC glider flying buddy Steve.  He's a pom and only flown in a jumbo to come to Australia.

Why did you give up full sized flying Winsor?

Finished the annual late last week and flew to the Whitsundays Saturday for the nice Runway Dinner they do.

 

At the annual I replaced the wing tank contents hose, lifted the nose wheel to allow dropping the nose wheel to give it a re-grease and fitted a throttle lock plus all the usual things that need doing. Then did a check fly on Thursday and loaded up for an overnight (Sat and Sun) to Shute Harbour airstrip for the Runway dinner they do. Being also my birthday it nice that they put on the occasion :) :) One of my presents was a propeller balance master from Daniel and I'll fit that in the next few weeks.

Hi All after fitting the propeller balance master to the Rotax 912 and doing a short ground run the other day I flew an hour run yesterday. All good and I'm happy with the BM. I believe they are worth fitting. Need to re-tension prop bolts now after the run (Usual requirement one hour after refitting or re pitching the prop; as we know.) Also engine service due so will get that done as well in the next few days. Ran up to 5000 straight and level. All runs sweet. Air was ideal however the visibility was hazy with light rain and limited vis horizontal at times so had small patches to fly in. Did the 5000 runs in a clear patch. Cheers Mike

Had the first fly of the spring season today and went to the beach. A good thing with the sand is you can assess how you go keeping the front wheel up after the mains are on. Fitted a new brake master cylinder kit and the brakes are back to 100%. Also gave the outside a good wax and polish so looks shiny again; will try and keep it there now. Had a cuppa with Bill on the forum, so a great morning fly all in all. And a Searay called in for a quick G'day. Cheers.

I have an Alpi 200 Pioneer at present - lovely aircraft, but the rough strips I tend to use have given the U/C a hammering and its just not handling them. I'm looking at doing a Nynja kit sometime soon - it was a choice between the Nynja and the Savannah, but the shorter build time of the Nynja clinched it and I have previously built the early model which went together very well. Looks to me from the website that the kit is now much more complete. I am hoping that there is an option to cover the control surfaces in ceconite rather than dacron - is this possible? As far as performance goes - can I expect at least a 90 kt cruise with the 100hp Rotax? Looking at the pics above it appears that 90 kts should be ok at around 4800-5000 rpm?

Hi You will find the Nynja an excellent aircraft. Re build I put a fair bit on these thread, Scott has an excellent build log on his site. Re covering pay the extra for the Xlam wing covering; it's a smooth Teflon like feel, no need to uv protect. Re fuel tank there are 90 liter behind the seat and twin 52 liter wing tanks as options available via Greg the previous agent. Re speed you will get 93 kts at 5000 rim. Both Vince from Inverell and myself flew our Nynjas on a 2 hour plus leg in early August and got the same numbers.

Give me a pm with email and I'll send over some parts I sourced for the build. Egg throttle and chock cable. I would not bother with an electric elevator trim as the lever and bowden cable is precise to adjust.

 

I have 163 hours now and find it a great aircraft that gets 1000/min plus.

You will easily get 90kt cruise out of the Nynja even with the Dacron wings. The Dacron wing cover are not a drawback. They are VERY to install (and replace when needed) and don't reall create that much more drag than ceconite.

Greg Robertson always claimed to get 100kt cruise out of his Nynja, which I used to scoff at, but looking back on it now, it is certainly possible. I used to cruise my Nynja at 5,000 RPM and the rotax will sustain significantly higher than that for long periods. If you build one, ther are any number of people (including myself) to refer to for questions or assistance.

 

I miss my Nynja and would have it back if I could afford two airplanes.
