Auto pilot

Tru Trak had something like that which you riveted a trim tab to one aileron which you then installed a small servo into the aileron, This was about 3-4yrs ago I saw this advertise but haven't seen it since, I thought at the time what a great idea with the simplicity of it. But not sure if they discontinue with the idea for some reason.

I too was keen on it and watched the development. Then it all went quiet so I asked them the question. This is the response back from the CEO in October last year

There could be issues with flutter, who wants to be A test pilot?

Nonetheless a trim tab will most likely flutter if the connection fails You might be able to include a damper in the design. There's enough unknown hazards without adding a "Known" one. Nev

Kasper what sort of a machine are you aviating in ? My kit/home built has been in the air since 2000 and has almost 900 hrs on engine/air frame.

 

As far as I am concerned its a proven aircraft, that presents no more risk than any other aircraft of similar size, design, material construction and engine type that is operated within the manufactures/suppliers recommended flight envelope - in short it has long since left the "test" stage.

There was an STC approval for an electric aileron trim adjustment back in the 80s, and there were a few fitted to Cessnas in Australia. Can't see it offered anymore and it may well have been discontinued due product liability issues. In any case, if the aircraft is rigged accurately, and then flown in balance, fuel should be used evenly from both tanks = the aircraft continues to fly 'wings level' Flap re-adjustment might be a better approach than aileron trim tabs?
