You are good at taking things out of context yourself SD. No one HAS to send their motor to Jabiru for a rebuild It can be done any way you like. but it's a GOOD DEAL the factory OFFER. which I have just explained.. IMMEDIATELY above your last post. and you are quite happy to disregard.. (probably because I wrote it). The Jabiru motor is lighter which mitigates against using another motor in a Jabiru aircraft as you need weight in the tail to convert.

 

People are free to make their own choice in a market. You like your choice (that's nice) but some will go the other way and many are happy with their choice. The amount of Jabiru bashing going on here over the years hasn't been very informed or productive. I suppose you would like the CASA to ground them? Well they sort of did that in a very controversial way that didn't enhance their reputation and damaged people financially who had not committed any crime. Now good people are bankrupt. There are plenty of engines flying that have a much worse likelihood of engine failure than a Jabiru and how you look after any of them has a big effect over the longer term, rather than just who the maker was . As far as I'm concerned the more motors available the better . The "perfect" one hasn't been made yet. Nev

Without Jabirus low upfront cost many would own their own aircraft and as Nev and I have both said in many airframes there isnt a direct option to compare.

 

Also not sure about the 500 hr engine exchange youre and others are talking about? Plenty go to tbo with some repairs along the way. Reckn interest on the $25 k could pay for much of repairs and top end work if required

 

Jabiru offer attractive exchange programs and plenty are self maintained

 

Lots of FTO’s run Jabiru aircraft as they have certified and lsa versions and cost effective to own and run. Highly popular airframe and tough. More than just engine to consider

I just responded to the statements made - no invention on my part - check back and see for yourselves.

 

Just for the record -

 

  • I have no problem with Jab engines /air-frames/owners - did my GA/RAA conversion in little Jabs - healthy respect.
     
  • I recognise and applaud the all Au Jab, its place in our sky's and in the hip pocket of many an owner - that does not mean it is without fault.
     
  • I do have a problem with Jab promoters who have a Rotax "chip on their shoulders" (about the size of a 912)
     
  • By accident/good fortune (not conscious selection) I became the proud owner of a Rotax 912 ULS motivated aircraft and I find it to be an excellent engine/aircraft combination - I am happy to extol its virtues but not to the detriment of another proven engine.
     
  • The preceding statement does not prevent me entering into a healthy debates, where I am happy to highlighting the virtues of the 912 compared with another engine of similar hp - should such a health( ??) debate be available.
     
  • There are many Jab supporters in my area and few of then miss an importunity to "stick the knife" into a Rotax owner - can make me a little testy at times.
     
  • In my admittedly limited (compared with the worthy commentators on this forum) experience and from the comments on this forum, I have formed the opinion that Jab supporters base their comments on ignorance (of the engine), are factually incorrect, do not compare like with like, make negative comments without supporting evidence, are masters of the tangential (irrelevant) argument/statement and are for the most part irredeemably biased - could be likened unto a fanatical state of mind where logic is suspended in favour of belief.

Glad you admit your bias as you quote in # 121 .Just read your last paragraph Above SLOWLY.. and ask yourself "Have I just described ME?." There is a lot of knowledge by Jab engine operators and commentators on this forum and the company have a good site on line. Historically the balance of "bashing" is very much one way and people of good intent try hard to sort the reality from the general opinion.

 

Your motor is "perfect" so just enjoy it, rather than just perpetuate a sorry period in aviation in this matter. Nev

What is odd Skippy? The fact that my Jab is reported to be quieter than a Rotax? Maybe it is the not being there for as long. that is just because the Corby gets around at over 100kts whereas most Rotax powered planes are quite a bit slower.

 

My opinion is that helicopters are a pain in the butt, because they fly low and slow, so we have to put up with them for far too long. At least the Rotax noise is nowhere near as bad as a chopper.

I thought we were discussing the relative merit of a couple of engines - but I guess you are doing something else (see my comments on tangential arguments).

 

The speed of your aircraft, at a given hp (Jab/Rotax/LyCon), has nothing to do with what engine you are using, ergo its noise "footprint" is not a speed matter.

Hoping for a rather higher level of self awareness, I find your response to be quite disappointing, so will end with an irrelevancy worthy of the rigour you bring to your comments - I watched Zombie Beavers probably the worst movie ever.

Pretty happy with my Jabbie aircraft and engine. In response to the title of the post, I have been using a mixture control on my Bing carby for almost 200 hours now. Very happy with the way it works.

I started this post some time ago and it has deteriorated into the usual Anti /pro Jab engine fiasco. I still do not know if the piece of equipment proposed by Jabiru will work or even if they are still pursueing the matter. It did seem a bit silly to me as there was a company in the USA reworking the Bing carbies to provide mixture control. They were selling a DIY kit for it.

Well this one was emailed to Yenn on April 3, so he has a defence, but what about the person who says he has fitted one (which presumably he had to buy from the alleged April fooler), and it works?
