The XPB Stage 1 underway.

Recommended Posts

Local news last night mentioned all distilleries have stopped making spirits and are working three shifts making hand sanitiser. I am ok with that. When life hands you lemons, change recipes.

Sorry for the thread drift Bex. This really is _comedy gold_.

Mate, I'm genuinely concerned for all of you, if these posts save one life it's worth all of it, planes are now secondary.

Come on Bex , do some building...…..we are getting off topic!

I haven't stopped, I've had to tend to a few other items, I built a decent sheetmetal folder properly, and I have the new CNC Router on the back of a truck heading to me sometime early next week, and re-arranged the factory to suit. Pretty much sums up why I've had nothing to post.

Health professionals are still saying if you are healthy a Mask is of little use.

I'm just in shock over this.

Part of the issue with this virus is that you don't know you have it for varying amounts of time until it signals you that it's imbedded itself, via the various symptoms, so in the meantime you transfer it to others, oh just great.

One young guy in Wuhan infected his entire family and relatives, of whom 3 died, and he didn't show a single symptom. That was early on, and when they realised there may be 'super carriers' of it.

So please tell me how you know you are anything but "healthy" during that build up time of 24 hours to a week, and why should medical workers who are "healthy" bother with them then .....

This is not an argument I want to win, I just want you guys to be safe, wear a mask, "F" what other's think.

For those who don't know yet, British PM Boris Johnson is positive and in isolation.

I'd wear a mask if I could, but haven't found any available.

Australia has recently had a shipment of 3 million, which bizarrely was the same quantity as the US ordered, with 10 x the population, but emergency workers are getting first priority. We can't have them working in west masks and dirty gowns and getting sick so that's where we are now for good or bad.

John Dyson has gone into production of ventilators in the UK and there was a suggestion that he was keeping some for Australia, but there's no doubt we are about to be overwhelmed. I think Victoria will run out of ventilators in the coming week, and from there if you can breathe with oxygen you'll survive, but if you need life support it's bad luck.

Report in the press yesterday that Patient Zero has been found in Wuhan, in the fish market, the virus mutating from shrimps, so its all over with eating bats or the Chinese government giving the Coronavirus to sixteen dissidents to kill them and it getting away.

She is merely the first probable documented case, doesn't mean she was the first. Some Doctors in the area suspect they treated others with similar symptoms earlier, but of course no reasons to suspect anything other than cold or flu. Note that many older Chinese self medicate relying on traditional medicines and knowledge, they don't go to hospitals. You walk into side street traditional medicine shops, tell the doctor your symptoms, and he throws together all the herbs for you to boil up and drink.

I have emailed Australian medical equipment distributors, haven't had a single reply. That's pretty common for Australian companies though.

Oh no, here comes the "Dyson with Death" jokes ...

So, yes, at first the NZ response did seem to be lagging.

But since then, decisive and comprehensive steps have been taken.

We're all now at Level 4/Stay Home with only a few genuinely essential services and businesses running.

The government has put in place a whole raft of measures to bolster us financially through what lies ahead.

Numbers here are on the upswing, and will continue so for some time.

We have 368 confirmed and probable cases with 85 in the last day, 1 in intensive care.

No wonder China has virtually stopped this thing in its tracks. Today again no new cases in China & in the last week or more the only new ones have been imported so now the borders are closed. As iBob said NZ is now in a 4 week full lockdown though I daresay nothing like the Chinese detail. It is testament to a now rare form of leadership. One that admits to little knowledge of these health issues but is prepared to listen to the health professionals. I posted this on the Off Topic site but it provides a good perspective of leadership in the English speaking world. When it comes to coronavirus, Ardern is winning on the world stage

To what extent should we spend effort in keeping really stupid people safe against their wishes? What about providing the information and masks and other protections only to people who want them? This would let Darwin do a job and those who are left might not be so silly.

And yes Bex, Australians are 6% more stupid on average than Chinese. I can prove this figure.

I'd love to see that news article. I'd also love to see which science journal is going to print or has printed such a claim

You find out all about it of you read either Murdoch or Faifax newspapers of either yesterday or the day before. It's academic to us here right now.

A tip for those who, like us, have found themselves in mandatory isolation. Treat it as a role-play for the inevitable, enforced retirement.

On the question of the first infected person, read some of what has been written re Ft Dedrick in the US. Also a story which appeared a little after this of a mysterious, commonly fatal respiratory disease which was linked? to vaping in the US. Our 'merican friends have a history of developing deadly bugs to use militarily.

When the subject of Murdoch or Fairfax press arises, I think of Dad's words,"Believe nothing that you read and only 1/2 of what you see".

We'll wait a little while before we order the statues. You forgot to read the last paragraph.

"However, the Centers for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization, said there is no evidence that Vitamin C prevents, or can cure the virus."

I'm happy enough to understand and believe that high doses of Vitamin C is a pretty good way to hammer flu viruses.

It's an excellent anti-oxidant - and I get plenty of it, by eating nice sweet local oranges, and drinking a fair bit of fresh orange juice daily. It's my favorite tipple.

But one has to produce peer-reviewed studies over an extended period of time, for ones disease-killing product, if one wants to receive general acceptance by the medical fraternity.

The problem with extremely high doses of manufactured Vitamin C, is that all it does, is give you expensive yellow wee. The body can only absorb modest doses of it, it simply rejects overloads of Vitamin C.

Dragon fruit are good for vitamin C and other minerals. Easy to grow and the red ones are nice chilled.

I'm pretty sure if you read back you'll find I agree and said "raw" Vitamin C in tablet or powder form, and you are correct, the body will excrete any excess. That will vary between people.

So in summary, it's cheap, it can't hurt you, zero risk, and is thought to have numerous benefits that may help your immune system fight this virus, and that may make the difference for some of you.

Even many Chinese chemists sell the expensive processed flavoured crap in order to make bigger profits, but otherwise I can buy raw tablets in small small bottles for cents in the dollar, and in Aus previously I used to buy the raw powder direct from some chemists for cheap. Mixed it in a glass of any fruit juice, don't eat a teaspoon raw, ask me how I know .... lol!

It may be worthwhile to spend some time thinking about the role of organisations such as CDC, US FDA, WHO and our own TGA. These organisations are fully integrated with "Big Pharma" or, in other words, the hugely lucrative, world wide drug cartels. Below is a link to a story out of France but linking to a major theme globally re hydroxychloroquine's possible role as in combating the virus.

https://asiatimes.com/2020/03/why-france-is-hiding-a-cheap-and-tested-virus-cure/

Please treat this in the helpful spirit it is offered and DON'T SHOOT ME...I'M ONLY THE MESSENGER!

I have a strong disagreement with the decision made recently to remove small dose codeine medications from readily being souced over the counter. These are highly effective analgesics in treating crippling pain experienced by many women suffering from endometriosis. I have had 8 tabs of oxycontin casually flipped to me by a dentist following tooth extraction. As a layman I can't help thinking that codiene has been given a 'bum wrap' when one looks at the overdose stats for codiene vs other synthetic opioids.

PS: Brendan Nelson has been a major promoter of the restrictions on codeine use in Aus.

Vitamin C won't hurt you, but be bloody careful trying things you've heard about that "help fight coronavirus".

One couple in the US ingested fish tank cleaner (containing chloroquine) after listening to Trump saying that chloroquine is useful in fighting Covid-19.

The man died, the woman is in critical condition.

PLEASE listen to the medical experts and not conspiracy theories or DIY medication.

You realise Brendan Nelson has just retired as head of the Australian War Memorial after several years great work; I've forgotten where he's going next, but don't think it relates to medicine.

My mistake...meant Brendan Murphy.

So...on another, very important front I ask when does this 'do nothing' govt act on evictions? Maslow's hierarchy of essential needs lists shelter next to food as MOST important. Landlords have been well looked after by govt on taxation and legislative protections. They must understand and authorities have a serious responsibility to make sure they do, that with the rights and benefits conferred upon them, they have the duty to protect their tenants. If an otherwise excellent tenant is unable to pay rent, for no direct reason that they can control, the landlord must continue to provide the basic need of a safe place to live. Families are vulnerable and deserve our best efforts to look after them.

Bex, THANK YOU THANK YOU.

that link is sooo helpful.

Luckily I still have an old bottle of vitamin C at the back of the condiments cupboard.

However, it was a bit of a struggle getting all six 1000mg tablets into my vein.

(Disclaimer - I'm taking the P!ss. I am not suggesting anybody try to self medicate. EVER.)
