Pioneering Air Mail to be re-enacted this weekend.

According to the article in 1920 it took 5 days for a letter to get from Sydney to Tenterfield and 5 days for the reply to get back. Well guess what nothing has changed. The time for the transport has improved dramatically but what Australia Post does for the other 4 days is a mystery.

If mail got to where it was going in a timely manner, nobody would use the "express" option.

Delaying the mail encourages people to use express, and so auspost make more money.....

Pure business. .....and a fairly monopolised one at that...

When I have bought items by phone, they often quote an "Express Post" rate and guarantee "delivery overnight". Experience has taught me that general mail is just as fast (and once or twice may have been quicker) because the fine print mentions "between major centres only".

AP have dropped their Express Post delivery time guarantee, for the duration of the COVID-19 epidemic. So you're just as well off not paying the extra for Express Post.

The best delivery operators for speedy parcel delivery is the Road Express operators - TNT, Toll, and most couriers.

The news as regards AP mail and parcel handling is not getting any better. I ordered an item from AliExpress on June 10th, paid to have it sent Air Express from China (reportedly 10-13 days delivery).

It hasn't arrived, and AP tells me from the tracking search, that it's likely to have been sent by sea, as international flight numbers are severely restricted. :crying:

In addition to the COVID-19 impact, there is also an impact on U.S. mail and parcel handling, due to "civil unrest". What a disastrous time to try and acquire anything from overseas, or send items overseas.
