Noice? Don't need much clear ground to put one of those things down I'd say??

Those things??? They are an aircraft!!!......These days I only fly the Drifter but I`ve flown numerous different types of Ultralights! I held an AUF CFI rating and ran my own CAA/AUF approved flying school, off our property here at Deeral, for 12 years before retiring from instructing.

I taught and have always promoted flying within gliding distance of a suitable landing area! I`m on my 6th Rotax 2 stroke engine and I`ve had my share of engine failures (EFATO) solo and dual and always walked away with only very minor damage to the AC, on 1 occasion.

It`s not only the amount of area that`s needed for a successful, safe landing, the pilot needs to be able to land safely and there have been far too many that weren`t able to do that and paid the ultimately price! I will continue to promote, flying within gliding distance of a suitable landing and practice it myself.

Franco,

Ps, Life`s good at Deeral.

As you all know by now, I just can`t stay on the ground for too long so this afternoon I just had to do it again! Thought I`d show you all what I look like.

Franco.

Franco, for a man of 47 years, you're a smooth-looking dude. The Hemsworth bros would have serious competition if you lived in Hollywood or they lived in Deeral! Keep it up (the Drifter, dammit) :oh yeah:

Franco.

Almost didn't recognise you, Franko!

Did you run away from home to fly in the Yukon?

Where are the shorts and bare feet?

Taking my friend, Peter Fisher, for a fly for his birthday, this afternoon...Peter is deaf but he`s a brilliant lip reader so no problem briefing him! he enjoys flying and has flown with me a number of times.

Don't want a T500 anymore... my T300 is the best!!!

Don, I don`t know much about the Thruster except, if I`m correct, it was the Thruster Gemini that was certified, under ANO 95.25 that allowed for the start of twin seat Ultralight instruction.

Why do you think your T300 is the best? just interested!!!...........Franco.

Frank, it's horses for courses. If I lived in shorts & t-shirt country it has to be a Drifter. Down here with the white stuff, protection from the elements is king. The T500 has a bag on the rear end that adds weight and hides the fuel and controls. My plane is in good nick with a new wing and 100hr engine. Its about 10 years younger than a Gemini. Don

  • 3 weeks later...

Took a club Drifter up yesterday from Clifton and cruised over Leyburn way. Back in the circuit it was practice time. Setup myself up high on base so I could practice a few slips. Also practiced a few glide approaches from different positions in the circuit or high above. I had a ball, every landing was good...finally! Starting to realize how rusty I was after not being able to get to the field and fly for 3 months due to lockdown restrictions. BFR was due in March and final managed to get it done 2 months ago. All went well except for the flares were a little high. Yesterday I concentrated on getting the flare lower and smoother....was rewarded with greasers. It's a good feeling walking away from a good flight, I have really noticed the improvements in the 7 hours on the Drifter over the last 2 months. Sorry, didn't take photos this flight.

G`Day guys! I now have a 'GoPro hero 8 black' and I`ve just started learning to use a couple of programs to create and edit videos`.

This was some of my flying yesterday afternoon and my first attempt at creating a video and posting it to youtube.

Ha! It appears the youtube censors have quite rightly deleted your filthy aviation porn! :hide:

Frank that's a pretty awesome video for a first effort! What was the camera mounted on?

 G`Day O-K, It really is my first video! I just started a week ago by downing loading, 'Openshot' and 'Olive' both free programs, then spending the required time with online tutorials. This morning I worked out how to upload to youtube and that made it possible to post the video here.

I have several adhesive mounting bases (for want of a better word) so I stuck one to the front, in the center of the wind-screen, about 10 inches from the top! I can see the screen and I can reach over the top to start and stop the recording... Because the recorded files can end up so large I took several short videos then narrowed it down to what you see.
