In the aft fuselage I have used something similar. It's a very lightweight stickyback aluminium coated foam to help reduce drumming on the flat panels. i have used a lightweight fibreglass stuff quilted between some other stuff to do the cockpit as it's more flame resistant. It has made significant improvement.

I still get drumming from the horizontal stab and wings because I'm not de-riveting to install insulation and wind noise is still the loudest thing. I'd have to build a less draggy airframe to fix that.

Take your hearing aids out :)

 

But seriously I turn my hearing aids right down and use EQ1 Noise Cancelling Headset.

In my case it is a case of having enough noise to hear the engine.

I hope to hear a problem before the gauges can tell me that I have one.

I insulated the entire fuselage including the firewall, top, sides & floor to the back of the baggage area behind me with that lightweight closed cell foam which has aluminium foil on one side. Of course I couldn't do anything about the bubble canopy other than good sealing. Then I put in some lightweight carpet & upholstery in the cockpit I got from Spotlight. I only have Rec Flying basic PNR headsets and don't have any problem with noise at all. I can hear the engine note and can detect any irregularity which is good. After a 3 hour flight I still feel fine. All I need is a pee.

Without an engine (in a glider), you can hear all the airframe noises. Creaks and groans and cables flapping. In the early Cessnas and Cherokees you had a speaker and hand held mike. They must have had adequate sound deadening then. Nev

Those old Cessnas which didn't have modern radio had sound deadening, maybe. I flew them for twenty years without headphones and now I have deafness. We could hear the loudspeaker OK, but I doubt I would hear it now and certainly wouldn't try.
