Hi all

For those who fly Drifters it might be a good idea to have a close look at the bottom rudder hinge. (2 flat s/s plates)

Did a preflight and discovered it broken at the rudder horn. Quite common and well known problem but can be overlooked as it's tucked out of the way.

Lucky to get some flying in today as conditions were less than ideal.

Micgrace :)

Hi

There is a AD on this on the RAA site on Drifter hinges (all of them), so it's not new. Look to the bottom of the tailpost. You'll notice the rudder stops there (on the rudder, not the tailpost). the offending hinge is located a little bit below. (And it's somewhat fiddly to change) There are several types, a bent one (45*) and straight type at least.

A quick wiggle is all it took to discover (rudder stops slops around the post ), plus a little bit of looking at the sky to see what was going on.

Unfortunately didn't take any photo's.

Micgrace :)
