A passenger who arrived late for his flight at Dublin Airport was wrestled to the ground by Ryanair staff as he ran towards the plane shouting “wait”.

The man, in his 20s, was arrested after breaking out of the terminal through a security door and sprinting towards the aircraft as it taxied to the runway on Thursday morning.

He and a woman were late for their 6.50am flight to Amsterdam and arrived at the boarding gate after it closed.

An airport spokesman said: “They were engaging with Ryanair staff at the gate and the male passenger was becoming agitated.

“He was banging on the window to try and get the aircraft to wait and he then broke through a door and made his way onto the apron, trying to flag the aircraft down.”

Declan Harvey, who was at the airport, said the man was “running out of the terminal towards the plane pleading and shouting at the pilot to wait”.

He added: “A ground crew member said ‘he just ran from the building towards the plane’. It took two police cars and a police van to deal with it.”

Ryanair staff pinned the man to the ground before airport police officers arrived and detained him.

The flight was briefly delayed.

An airline spokesman said: “Police at Dublin Airport detained an individual who breached security at the boarding gate, which had already closed. This is now a matter for local police.”

Gardai, Ireland’s state police force, confirmed officers were called to the airport at around 7am.

The man was taken to Ballymun station for questioning. He is due to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin on Thursday.

The same thing happened at a Southisland NZ airport as the contingent of Unilever people didn't hear the last call from the bar, and saw their plane taxiing.

They weren't arrested and we're brought back by minibus, to the same bar for more drinks, On the house as the bar speakers were broken.
