A pick of my Kitfox IV over YCNK after heart surgery, see attachment. Cheers taildraggers.
Nice looking machine!
Outside my hangar last week. . .
Lovely little plane - what engine? I took over a Himax build some months ago as a project (you have to have a project) and its progressing well. It will have a Rotax 503 - inverted, and I have built a 35 litre fuel tank to go behind the seat - should balance out the heavier engine. Also looking forward to doing some drag reduction - they perform well if cleaned up a bit with faired struts, droop wingtips, spats etc. I have joined the Lonesome Buzzards forum based in the USA - fantastic amount of tips and mods that various builders have done.
Hello MM - great to hear of another Max person in this hemisphere.
When building my Eros I decided on a Compact Radial Engines MZ202. It makes a genuine 60hp at an installed weight of 40kg - this is 10 kg less than the old 503 I have that I was going to fit (weighed on same scales). And it's 625cc, with electric start.
Yes, the ETLB is a great forum - it was one of the reasons I decided to build a MiniMax. A couple of my threads you might be interested in: this one on the drag reduction mods I've done, & this one on my build.
I have a 22 litre tank in each wing. I'm surprised you managed to fit a 35 litre tank behind the seat - but maybe the Himax is a bit different from the midwing.
I'll look forward to seeing some pix of your project.
Thanks Bruce - as it happens I had read your posts on the ETLB forum and actually replied at one stage (Jetranger). You really have made an effort to reduce drag and I imagine you will have a very good cruise speed as a result. The MZ202 is a great little engine - my 503 came with the partly-built aircraft so stuck with that, but it should do the job ok. I will certainly be copying many of your drag-reducing mods - looks like you have very good fiberglassing skills.
Loved your rant about your licensing problems - our CAA here in NZ can be frustrating enough to deal with at times, but nothing like CASA or the Brit authorities.
Ah - Jetranger. Yes, I've been reading your posts on ETLB. Didn't realise it was you - that's the trouble with those of us (like, me!) who have different user names on different forums (fora?).
Good luck with your HiMax. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with the build. I miss my time in the shed. And my wife keeps finding boring house-type jobs now that apparently urgently need doing. . .
The Courier and an Airbike dropped into "Owen's International" for a brew. Nice landing area near the house. One way because of powerlines, and a bit of a slope across the strip which takes a bit of getting used to!
A couple of pics from a recent outing. Not a nosewheel in sight!
Here's a couple of pics from today's outing to a mates strip near Agnes Waters.
Here's a few pics of the latest jaunt in the Courier. Short hop down the beach and then a visit to Elliott Field near Bundy.
You speak for yourself!
I guess you had to slow down for the Citabria?
The Courier has a play date with " Tweety Bird" Lightwing.
Do you have to keep rubbing it in Brett ? hahahahah I cant wait until I move up there
Sorry mate, I'll have to have another crack at your strip next time your up.
Will be up on the australia day long weekend from the thursday night go home sunday morning
The Courier and Tweety Bird get together at Orchid Beach.
