Guest basscheffers Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I was just forwarded this: Please note the following proposal, submitted by FLTLT Benjamin Heaton OAR Defence, to establish a restricted area at Swan Reach, SA. The dimensions of the proposal are as follows:Lateral:1 NM radius S34 35 34.33 E139 39 44.75 Vertical:SFC - 1500FT Managing Authority: The Department of Premier and Cabinet, Government of <state w:st="on"> South Australia</state> (Safework SA) Diagrams of the restricted area proposed are attached. The restricted area is proposed primarily for safety reasons relating to the storage of explosive material. It is anticipated the change will be implemented and effective on the November 2010 AIRAC date. As part of the Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) process, Defence request feedback and/or comment from industry on the restricted area proposed. All submissions are requested by COB Friday 14th May 2010. Please direct comments to: [email protected] This is right on the scenic Murray River corridor. Many ultralight and microlight pilots there would need to keep in mind this restricted area - the only one around anywhere near there. The odds of an aircraft crashing into the munitions store are so astronomically small that creating a restricted area just for that is proposterous.I have voice my opinion to CASA, I hope you'll put in yours! Vorticity Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 It isn't to stop people crashing into it, it's to protect any over-flying aircraft in case of an explosion, hence the 1500ft upper level.
Guest basscheffers Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 That was my second guess. Which too is an astronomically small chance. If they really want to mark it, make it a danger area and let people decide for themselves.
