Guest Escadrille Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 The cover of the May Rec aviation Aus magazine has a terrific photo of a retract gear Dragonfly trike on the cover. This little personal pocket rocket really looks a neat package. Has any one any experience flying and owning one of these? I believe they are manufactured in the UK and would probably be prohibitively expensive here but I just love the concept.. Launch anywhere(dirt road, track, field), retract the gear , clean up for more efficiency, get to height or nearby hill, soar, a bit of X country, start engine purr home..Land, cool libation :-) fan...bloomin.. tastic!
Guest Crezzi Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I was very tempted & was hoping to fly one when I was back in the UK last year but sadly it didn't work out. Larry Jones is the Australian importer - see Adelaide Airsports: Dragonfly Last time I checked they were about $28K IIRC which seems a bit steep given that the top of the range model is only UKP8000 (ex tax) in the UK. Cheers John
winsor68 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 There is a lot of appeal in simple flight such as this machine offers... Ironically there is one for sale on the sight right now?
Guest Escadrille Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 WOW 28 K! Now Let me see, 8000 GBP so 13342 AUD today approx, plus GST = 14676 AUD approx say guess AUD 1000 shipping now 15676. 28 K purchase minus 15676 $12324 seems like a fantastic profit. WOW! I think I might import 'em myself!!! even second hand at 22K seems a lot... Damn Better keep what I have now, seemed a great concept though, So much for the Flyin Flea ideas... Cheers, Rubbery Figures,
eastmeg2 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 It might well be worth asking the Aussie importer for a revised price, since last time we asked AUD = 0.45 GBP approx and it's now about GBP 0.60
Tracktop Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 The one in the for sale is only $22k and almost brand new. It has flown into my place - nice machine

Cheers, Rubbery Figures, Current prices:- Trike with retracts & fairings £4810.49 Bailey V4200 and propellor £3014.26 Aeros Discus 14/15T £3,354.68 Total: £11,179.43 = $18,791.50 (even more if you add some of the extras like parachute) Then add Freight, Import Duties and other landing fees then GST on top. (these add up to quite a lot) Larry then has to assemble, test flight etc There's not as much rubber in the figures as you think I have flown the Dragonfly and it's a lot of fun!
David F Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Minimun Trikes Give Andrew Buchan a call at Sywell airfield. You may get a better price as a personal import.Or at these prices it would be cheaper to go over and buy one. Dave
Guest Crezzi Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I thought Ben Ashman was the Dragonfly guy at Sywell . Andy Buchan was at Caunton but he might have moved since I was last over there ? Cheers John
damo Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 There's another second-hand Dragonfly now for sale... Adelaide Airsports: Microlight Sales
Guest Escadrille Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I still love this concept and I see that Air borne have seen the potential with their new T'litë for 18K! Amazing how that is approx 10K below the Dragon fly... But seriously I hope they both do well. Not much chance of sampling or even seeing one up here in Qld though... A shame that Raptor( John Reynoldson?) won't market his Thistledown nano light trike too..
