peterholmes Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 hi all I just checked my 912 exhaust springs on last preflight, I normally run my hand over the spring to see if it may be loose or broken and I caught my skin on one of the stainless safety wire where it had frayed, so i pulled on it with somer pliers and it broke away, probably has lasted ok considering 328 hours, but i wouild like to hear how long the safety wires should last, how soon should thay be replaced?? a better way of replacing them ?? suggestions? looks like brake or throttle cable wire that has a swage on the end, or is it a "special" thing thanks guys
alf jessup Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Pete, Just go buy some good quality tie wire and a set of tie wire pliers, cant remember what gauge it is but will look at mine when i'm next out at the airfield and let you know. Cheers Alf
bilby54 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Hi Pete, The flexible wire is good. Put a bead of high temperature (orange) silicon on the springs and both them and the lock wire will last for a long time - works a treat. Cheers
Guest milton56 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Hi Pete I have a 912uls in my Savannah. I used the wire and silicone method and so far have had no problems. Milton56:thumb_up:
Dieselten Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 The lock-wires are fishing trace, with aluminium fishing-trace swages to fit. You can get both, and the correct swaging-tool, at most fishing-shops or sports stores. Permatex 26B is a good high-temp sealant to apply to damp vibrations on the springs.
