Video contains intercom so you can hear some of my running commentary as well as radio calls. Sam Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Hey, Where and how do you mount your camera?? Thanks Sam Thomson
Guest studentbiggles Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 :score 010:Well done Seeker, I was about to ask the same question as the above reply...Your arms must be longer than mine, I have great trouble reaching cross over to turn on/off flaps thats why in my own Jabbi I'm going to have another switch put just near the throttle..Excellent video and calls though quick, very precise sez me who stuffs mine up all the time Fly Safe Alley
sseeker Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 Hey Sam & Alley, I've attached a picture to describe where I mounted the camera a bit better than words. I'm currently using a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV19E (7 years old) and an Aiptek HD200 for recording. I use this mount to stick it to the window: Suction Mount Tripod Holder For Car Window Camera Hold - eBay, Other Accessories, Video Camera Accessories, Cameras. (end time 13-Jun-10 13:58:38 AEST) Image is courtesy of the Jabiru website & the picture displays a J120, I fly the J160. Hope this helps, -Andrew
Sam Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Just bought one! so cheap aswell! thanks for the referral to that product :) Regards Sam
sseeker Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 Hi Sam, I bought 3 because they were so cheap, so if one breaks I've got a backup. Shipping took around 2 weeks to WA. I look forward to seeing some of your new videos! -Andrew
kth_logan Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Comms Great video.. Only comments are that I found the location in all the calls very muffled...listened many times. I know it is Bindoon but can not make out the rest...sounds like 'Bindoon abandoned'...May be that you are saying very fast, perhaps need to slow down a touch. You also tend to favour the left corner of the runway rather than the centre, or is there a reason for that. Other wise a good job...well done.. PS.. These are not critisims but my observations..:black_eye:
kth_logan Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Apology,,,, Hey I have just looked at your location and I have seen it is Bindoon abandoned... My apologies...but calls are very fast.
pudestcon Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Thanks for the video sseeker, I found your calls a bit quick as well (must be because I am an old partly deaf bloke) but could easily hear (your words are clear) what was being said through my headphones sitting at the computer here. I wonder though with engine noise and some static and/or background hiss in the aircraft, would I be able to understand as well? Just my thoughts so don't take as criticism. A great video for prompting me to appraise my techniques in radio procedure and general flying, thanks Andrew. Pud
sseeker Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 Hi Pud & Keith, Yes I tend to blab my calls out very fast and yes it is Bindoon Abandoned, as a matter of fact when I did my TIF I had to ask my instructor what he was saying because I couldn't interpret the abandoned part. I'll work on slowing down this weekend. It's just the camera view that gives off the deceiving view, if you take a look at some of my other videos on youtube with the camera mounted above my head, all is ok. Thanks for commenting.. Since I'm a low hours pilot, I need people to comment on my flying/radio etc... so in return I can improve it. Regards. Andrew
Sam Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Was it really only AU$6.97 and post free? Blackrod, Yep! i havent received it yet as i only ordered it about 4 days ago but i was only charged $6.97 Australian. The postage details on its listing also confirm that it is free postage. It is flown out from Hong Kong i think.
sseeker Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Andrew,Another good video buddy. I am curious how you interface the intercom / radio to the Handicam recorder. Is it direct to the video recorder or via the Aiptek HD200 (what is that). Would you mind taking a couple of minutes to explain the connection regime for audio please. David Hi David, The Aiptek HD200 is a cheap little HD camera I got from Target for $99. (Here's a test clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFkLFM4q8KY watch in 720P HD) The Xcom intercom cable links directly into the handycam via its microphone input & you connect your headsets speaker jack to the input on the cable and then plug the 1/4" jack into the aircrafts intercom. So it's splitting the audio from the intercom/radio into your headset and the jack for the Handycam input. Camera is just mounted on the rear right hand window and the intercom cable is plugged into the headset on the right side. Only 1 of my videos is using the Aiptek HD200 - but I might start using this one more because of its brighter picture. Hope this helped. Regards, Andrew
