Spin Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Spare a thought for these guys next time you suffer hangar rash, photos allegedly show damage done to the new 747 8series prototype and one of it's fancy GE next generation turbofans, on the way to a test flight.
dazza 38 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Was the guy asleep at the wheel or brake failure ?
Guest davidh10 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Pilot to Boss: Err... No it doesn't clear the tug! Missed by thaaat much:clown:
Spin Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 Was the guy asleep at the wheel or brake failure ? I don't have the full story, but from what I hear the aircraft was being towed by another tug and the driver misjudged the clearance under the engine nacelle. Bit of a mess being a prototype, there probably aren't spares lying on the shelf either! Reminds me of an airshow after-party at an airbase far, far away - Mr Minibus driver decided to take a short cut across the apron in the dark and cut beneath the rear fuselage of a B1:ah_oh:. I heard what sounded like minor impact but wasn't really supposed to be there either so got mobile before I got blamed!
dodo Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 It's cheaper when it's only the vehicle that needs a little touch up! Jim
dodo Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 What actually happened, where and when - I just found the photo somewhere? It looks like they may have made a habit of driving under the Tornado's wing at speed, fully loaded, and lightly loaded the van was just that little higher - oops! Jim
Spin Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 Don't know many details on that one, Tornado in Germany I was told, which seems to be borne out by the numberplate visible in the slightly larger photo that was sent to me. Whatever, I bet all concerned developed writers cramp from filling out the reports.
Spin Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 In the same vein, if you thought you were going to keep your little undercarriage problem under wraps, don't load a bunch of jounos in the back then park the Metroliner on its belly...... Photos courtesy of avcom.co.za and onceoffonly
Guest ozzie Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Reminds me what my old employer used to tell the pilots. in the event of an incident as above "the matches are in the glovebox"
