Admin Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Ok all, I warned you to be prepared for some serious gloating and zillions of pictures when my new CTsw arrived. Well, it has finally arrived so this is the thread on the story of my new aircraft arriving, being assembled, checked over, having her final fit out, registered, test flown and finally being handed over to her new owner...and that being me ;) The order was placed in May and the boat arrived on Saturday with my pride and joy snuggly fit inside a 40ft container. I have just received the phone call that Customs have released her and the transport company is trying to get a slot to have the container transported to Riddells Creek in Melbourne tomorrow (Wed). That's all for today but be prepared for a long thread - not as good as those that are enjoying the fruits of their hard work building a Jabiru kit here in the forums but nevertheless I am still going to enjoy writing about it as I am up here in Port Macquarie around 1,300 kms away from her and dependent on the distributors in sending me photos of each step they take until I can get down to her on the 2nd Feb. HOORAY - SHE'S FINALLY HERE
Captain Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Congrats Ian. I guess it's too late now to upgrade to a 230, so you're stuck with her. Want a drag to Narromine this year? Geoff
slartibartfast Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Wonderful Ian. Congrats. Regardless of who wins the race Geoff (want pictures) you are both nearing the end of a long wait. Although both of you had plenty to fill the time. Can't wait to see her in the new livery. Ross
Guest pelorus32 Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Wouldn't it be cruel to....take a day off work tomorrow and slink out to Riddells Creek just to have a look at Ian's new a/c before he gets to see it. It's too late for Christmas but I bet that's what it feels like Ian. I'm really looking forward to seeing it, but I'll wait till you have. Regards Mike
PaulN Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I AM SOOOO GREEN Hooray for Ian, wonderful news indeed . Can't wait to see all the promised pics (be warned, part of the moderators' brief is to delete gloating posts). I guess we now know why Ross's techno help was called on ... Ian will soon be off the air more than on (or should that read "in the air"?). Well, it has finally arrived so this is the thread on the story of my new aircraft arriving, being assembled, checked over, having her final fit out, registered, test flown and finally being handed over to her new owner...and that being me ;) You forgot to mention the national tour to take all your forum buddies for TIFs. Looking forward to seeing the new baby in the flesh Ian. Don't be shy mate, Cooma is just a brief hop over the hills and it will give you a chance to see if she can climb high enough to clear LSALT of 8000. If you can't find the way just hit the AP button and sit back with a tinny or two. Paul

Geoff Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I take it the 230 handles wake turb comfortably then?? Bit of a challenge hear Geoff ;)
Captain Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 ..... handles wake turb comfortably then??Paul Geeez these CT blokes stick together eh Geoff (1). Is that below the belt, or what? Better go and order the coarsest prop I can get hold of, eh? Shouldn't be highjacking Ian's thread like this .... so congrats again Ian ... and back to you. In deference to your new aircraft and your exalted position on this website both Geoff(1) & I will pull ours back to 2400 and you can deservedly lead the way into Narromine. Geoff (2)

Geoff (2) Geoff (2) - I had to look up the word "exalted" and found: high, lofty, glorious, dignified, illustrious, high ranking Now we are getting somewhere but that word "deference" really got me ;) Anyway, just been told my CTsw will arrive at 1:00pm tomorrow and I have instructed the guys to wear white gloves whenever they touch it.
Guest AusDarren Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I have just received the phone call that Customs have released her and the transport company is trying to get a slot to have the container transported to Riddells Creek in Melbourne tomorrow (Wed). I had an Afternoon off work, so why not go for a drive to Riddle to see the new beast. Airfields can be just so hard to find on the ground.. Its so much easier from the Heavens. Found a very busy field at Riddles creek, Lots of maintenance happening, even new hangers under construction; Friendly People, Great Facilities. Ahh but where was the CT Hiding.. Spoke to a few People.. Eventually someone Knew that it was At Kyneton. Back to the car.. and off to Kyneton Airport is easy to find.. Lots of new hangers.. bulders building some more.. asked the builders had they seen a container go by..?? And YES! hanger right at the end had 3 very nice looking CT's inside.. So Ian I beat you to it *grin* here are a few photos Ian I think you should consider a GPS for the panel.. you really need to work on those position reports.. *chuckle* Regards, AusDarren;)
Admin Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 YOU MONGREL - Wow Darren, what can I say but a HUGE sincere thank you for that ;) So that is what she looks like and seems there is just enough room in the panel for the new Avmap to go in. There was some conjecture on whether the new high back seats with the headrests were going to be leather or not - do you see if they were? You have made the pain of being up here in Port Mac so much more
Guest AusDarren Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 the seats did seem much higher than others I have seen I'm afraid I didn't notice if they were leather they were partially covered. Was the only one with a two blade prop :-) I'll have to have another peek once all the wrappings are off and the wings on.. I'm just very envious.. Regards, AusDarren
PaulN Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 There was some conjecture on whether the new high back seats with the headrests were going to be leather or not - do you see if they were? I dunno, I think the orange plastic look suits her just fine Ian. Isn't this your style? Paul

Looks like your search for hangar space could be over soon Ian. Paul
BigPete Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 OK you two - lets get things into perspective. Get on the 'phone and tell 'em to send the bloody wings over as well, AND while you've got 'em on the line tell them very politley but firmly ONE TV screen for inflight movies would be sufficient, can I have some real flying instruments - PLEASE! I gather from your obvious excitment that it's nearly as good as getting a new Jabiru. ENJOY! regards
Admin Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 Darren, I owe you a trip up in her now, that's if you want to that is
Guest AusDarren Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 :big_grin: why thank you kind sir.. I'll certainly look forward to it
Admin Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 Had a phone call late last night from the Leo (one of the distributors) asking for the Avmap so they could put it in today. Unfortunately I was waiting for the new updated card model with terrain warning etc to arrive here but they haven't as yet so i have had to get a current model one and download the upgrade later. It will arrive tomorrow so the Avmap should be in by Friday - just physically in but not connected to the Dynons or the Auto Pilot - that will have to be next week. I will be up there on Sat and Sun helping Shaun (the other distributor) putting the wings on and giving her a check over. Have organised for the guy Brendan from Auto-Persona to come out on Monday and put the colours and rego numbers on. So it is all looking like an end of next week to go cruising - I want to have a few hours with either Shaun or Leo to re-familiarise myself with the CT again before I think about doing any solo flights.
Captain Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Thanks for the advice about the AvMap terrain warning feature Ian. I was about to call them to chase mine up. Did they give you any indication of when it should be available here? Regards Geoff
WestCoast Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Ian...looking forward to seeing some more pictures when you have the CT assembled.....also a full report on the AVmap and it's features once you have had some time using it. (does it output ARINC 429 data?) Regards Dave
Guest byteboy Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 ARINC data No the AvMap does not. I've yet to find a Portable that does. I hope one shows up on the Horizon soon. I've been told however that the "fly by" before connecting up to the next point isn't soo bad at a slow speed so it might not be that neccasary but it sure would be fun. Roger H http://www.ctflyer.com
WestCoast Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 OK thanks Roger...thats a pity as I thought the AVmap might have been ARINC capable but as you say, not a necessity for aircraft in this speed category. I understand the following have ARINC 429 output :- Garmin 250/300XL, Garmin GNC 430/530, Apollo GX50/55/60/65 and CNX80, King KLN 90/90B, and Sierra Flight Systems. I will be very interested to hear how it compares with the Skymap IIIc which I think Ian had in his previous CT. Regards Dave
Admin Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 Well, I finally got to see my new CTsw in the flesh yesterday and helped Shaun from Sports Aircraft Australia perform her final assembly. It was a good chance to see the actual workings of the CTsw. The Avmap GPS is still to be fitted which Stan, the avionics guy, is making up a new centre panel to house the GPS, the Garmin transponder and Garmin radio. To make it fit he will have to rotate the carby heat and cabin heater block 90 degrees to mount it vertical as the Avmap has a whopping 7inch display. Today the LAME will check her over and hopefully pass her as airworthy. The colour scheme and numbers will be attached tomorrow (Monday) and then they have take a picture of her with the rego numbers being 24-4848 and send it off to the RA-Aus for my CTsw to finally be registered and ready for her final test flight. When the Avionics are completed the keys will be handed over Here are some pictures of her final assembly yesterday - there are a lot The tail section as she came out of the container ready for assembly The mounting brackets for the rudder and elevator Attaching the elevator Attaching the elevator to the bottom bracket The Rotax 912 engine ready for final inspection They pack the engine in nicely in the CTsw The engine attachment to the firewall - very strongly done The left side of the Rotax The wing mounting holes Ready to mount the rudder Look at the twist on the Neuform prop Checking the brakes and wheel attachment The BRS Ballistic Parachute deployment handle, the rudder trim and the aileron trim The throttle etc quadrant and elevator trim The CTsw has enormous room and even has a centre console The centre panel looking a bit dirty and dusty from her long trip from Germany The Dynon EMS D120 Engine Management System Behind the panel where the radios and GPS goes The Dynon EFIS D100 Flight Management System The panel so far inc the Autopilot - the white button on the stick turns the AP on and off These high back seats are so comfortable The lower area behind the cockpit rear wall The BRS Ballistic Parachute Inside the fuselage before the fabric wall gets attached The top part of the aileron and flap workings Attaching the rudder Rudder part 2 The tail is complete Well almost - the rudder cables (we need them) Now the wings - fuel tank check first Everything ready for the wings Put some grease in first YES - the wings are on The fuel gauges The ballistic chute opening Now we're talking - looking nice Oops - still some more to do Panel try out Brakes!!! - ready for the spats One on - one to go Nice and slippery underneath The OAT and remote compass area Nothing spared here - even LED lights Flaps and ailerons Watch your head - even has angle of attack in the Dynons Are we ready yet??? Guest pelorus32 Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Hi Ian, It's getting close!! What a great picture story. She looks really good. I noticed the LSA placard in the cockpit. Is she an LSA rego aircraft with 600kg MTOW or a UL with 544kg? Hope today is another great day. Regards Mike
Admin Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 Mike I went for 544 as it is inevitable that we will be going to 600 so I thought I would just wait till then - just means that with me being 105kg (no comments ) I just won't be able to take the full 130 litres of fuel if I take a passenger till we go to 600 - she comes in at a tad over 300kg so in rough figures 300+105+80 (pax)=485kg which means 60kg of fuel which is 80 litres. When we go to 600 and full fuel and pax still leaves me 18kg of luggage - these are rough figures In the words of a infamous Aussie - I'm EXCITED Meanwhile back at the ranch and having been away for so long the wife wants the iron fixed, the plinth boards put back on after the house was re-stumped, the cracks in the walls fixed, every room painted, the garden changed over to use less water, the garage cleaned out, the swings and trampoline moved, the cubby house painted, lawns mowed, new cupboard in the kitchen yadda yadda yadda ;)
