Admin Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 FREE to a real real nasty home - one wife, slightly used, airframe 40 years, mouth has been overhauled and zero houred (without my permission), no manuals are available with this model, 2 children are not optional as there is still time for a full conversion to occur Here is my blackmail material at my son's 5th birthday - now wouldn't you like to have my wife now? Seriously, I am really proud of her - we have just done some bargaining - I fix the iron now and she gives me 1 weeks grace
Guest Juliette Lima Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Hi Ian, Thanks for a really informative tour of your delightful new lady. Is'nt it incredible how far we have evolved from the earlier grass roots machines. The quality of the CTsw is clearly apparent. Problem with finding a 'new home' for 'a slightly used wife' is that the 544 weight limit quickly becomes roughly half....(if you are lucky) .....speaking of which I know where there is a delightful Drifter 912 for sale, BRS and all....Port Macquarie in fact, and should meet an amended weight limit if required. Simple machine , joy to fly. Best of luck with flying the CTsw and hope all goes well. JL PS. must learn how to insert one of those yollow smiley things.
Admin Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Thanks John - the CTsw really is a well thought out aircraft - it would have to be seeing it was designed as a phd project BUT I will always say that whilst the CTsw is my incredibly exceptional lady, my Gazelle will always be my "mistress" ;) The yellow smiley's - just click the Advanced reply button if you use the quick reply and click the smiley that is on the right of the box where you compose your post.
PaulN Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 ... we have just done some bargaining - I fix the iron now and she gives me 1 weeks grace If you were a real man you'd offer to do the ironing too . Great set of pics Ian. I'm looking fwd to seeing 4848 in the flesh. Paul
Admin Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 If you were a real man you'd offer to do the ironing too .Paul Huh - as I gaze out the window I see yet another pig flying by The secret Paul is when you first get married you be really nice to her and say "Dear, let me help you and do the ironing for you", you then make sure you iron her best outfit and totally mess it up with big ironed in creases etc - whammy, you never have to do the ironing again ;)

Admin Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 You should have seen Corrine when I did the washing for her the first time - all the clothes into the washing machine, whites, colours everything. The best part was when I hung the clothes out on the line - 1 peg on only one sleeve of a jumper (she hit the roof on that one), 15 hankies all together with 1 peg. a peg on one side of her undies and stretched them really wide and another peg on the other end I never had to do the washing again ;) The Pros and Cons of all of this is: The Cons - you will have to go through live with her telling her girl friends at parties etc that you are useless at housework The Pros - She will continually tell you to get out of the house and into your garage where you have set up your recliner rocker, TV, bar etc Don't start me on the cooking side though - i said I would make her some egg sandwiches - put the eggs on to boil and forgot about them - do you know what happens to eggs when they boil dry - they explode embedding bits of egg shell into the ceiling etc - the cost, painting the ceiling, the reward, no more cooking - priceless ;)
slartibartfast Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Ian - thanks for all the progress pics. Almost ready to fly - bet you can't wait. Regarding all the wifely advice - I call shenanigans. I've been married too many times to play those games. I now play it straight down the line. Pitch in with anything required, iron my own shirts, do the dishes, throw a load in the washer, etc. It all comes back in spades if you have chosen a wife wisely. I have (this time) and I want to keep this one.:;)7: She is very suppportive of my flying - I got 4 hours in the air yesterday. I think I did 23 landings, and by good management, exactly the same number of takeoffs. Ross
Guest danda Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Of course their's always the other side I did nothing at all around now due to my wife's illness I have to do 90% of it all so like the old saying says what goes around comes around. Don
Guest byteboy Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Thanks for the pictures... Ian, Wow, mines identical so looking at these pictures was just plain exciting and incredible. Hopefully I've only got another month or so for delivery. Hope you don't mind if I put these pictures on http://www.ctflyer.com. Keep us posted as I know you will!! Roger H
Admin Posted February 6, 2007 Author Posted February 6, 2007 On Sunday my new CTsw was inspected by a LAME who approved it as airworthy  Yesterday (Mon) Brendan from Auto-Persona came out to start the graphics and it all went ok. Brendan will be back on Wed to hopefully finish it all as it is a big job and he knows that I am a real pain in doing things properly. Shaun arrived late in the afternoon to take it for its test flight - stinking hot day at 38deg but she performed perfectly. After her maiden flight he picked mu up for my first flight in her - WOW, what a beautiful flying machine, I wasn't allowed to fly her properly yet as Shaun wants to make sure that everything is perfect before he hands her over and even then he said that either he or Leo, the other distributor, will spend as much time with me as I want until I am comfortable in taking her up solo - even though I have owned a CT before there is so much to learn with this new girl especially the Dynons and more. I did warn you - here are some more pictures:
Admin Posted February 10, 2007 Author Posted February 10, 2007 Went up in my CTsw today for the first time flying her myself - 1.1hrs. Had Leo one of the distributors with me as it was a familiarisation flight and after doing some cruising to get to know her we did some stalls in different flap positions and she did not even feel like she had stalled - I still had full control of the ailerons and all she was doing was losing height. To bring her out of the stall I just let go of the stick and she just straight away levelled out and I applied power and started to pull her back up - so simple as she just wants to fly. Leo remarked how smooth and fast she was - my last CT was the fastest of them all and it seems this one is the same - 130 knots TAS without blinking and I really feel it is because of the 2 bladed prop where a lot of the others are 3 bladed. Leo (and Shaun for that matter) also commented how smooth she was - placing the hand on the window, panel etc there was almost zero vibration - I am happy  The only problem which I think is a setting was the Dynon EMS alarm kept going off showing high fuel pressure - Leo is going to look into it but as I said I think it is just the Dynon setting. The Dynon AOA has to be calibrated as well but as Leo has to fly his A340 800 over to LA this week he will get Rex, a QANTAS Check Caption, to calibrate that for me. The radio, transponder and Avmap GPS should be put back in this week. Also the colours are nearly finished with a bit more on the fin, the wing tips and the spats which will be done on Friday. Here are some pictures:
Admin Posted February 10, 2007 Author Posted February 10, 2007 Looking at her now I don't think I am totally happy with the way the front colours coming up to a point so I think I may have to get Brendan, the vinyl guy from Auto Persona to change them a bit. Also, I think she needs some colour other then blue so I might look at getting the flames put on like my first one as shown here:
Guest sypkens Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Nice Ian! I am envious! Enjoy it! Jan
Admin Posted February 10, 2007 Author Posted February 10, 2007 Thanks Jan I dropped in at Heck Field late last year when I went for a holiday with the family up to the fun parks and I snapped these happy photos whilst I was there - also bought one of the club's blue and yellow shirts to help support them in just a little way.
BigPete Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Ian, I'm so jealous - 130 knots - I wish!!! regards (slow jab driver)
slartibartfast Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 I reckon she looks real cute Ian. What an exciting time for you after such a long wait. I lined up a J160 today to fly to Narromine on Good Friday and back Saturday. It's a lovely plane - I flew it to Wagga and back to Tumut today. So I'll see the CT at Narromine? Ross
Ultralights Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 to me the shape of the nose and the red prop make it look a little comical! a toy even........(bunker door closed)
Admin Posted February 22, 2007 Author Posted February 22, 2007 Well it's getting close - the colours are almost finished but I had to leave before it was completely finished so here are some snaps of it almost completed. AND, my first accident - I was putting some Composiclean Sun Shades on the roof window and I wasn't completely inside and when I suddenly moved I lost my balance and fell out with me hitting the ground fairly hard but my elbow came straight down on a wheel cover - big dent and cracked the paint. I immediately rang Shaun the distributor and I don't think he could make heads or tails of what I was saying as my brain was still rattling around from the fall but after a minute he could understand me and said to just push the dent back out - luckily I was able to push the dent out which just left the cracked paint.
slartibartfast Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 She looks fantastic Ian. Good one. Bad luck about falling on her. May I suggest that when you repaint it, change the lettering to "No Step or Elbows". Ross
hiperlight Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Ian, Quick fix...leave the hip flask at home!!! Bruce
Admin Posted February 23, 2007 Author Posted February 23, 2007 Well tomorrow (Sat) I will take my first trip in the new CT - going from Riddells Creek to Shepparton - weather permitting. Should be a good chance to get to know her although I haven't got the Avmap or the carpet installed yet it should still be a nice little trip.
