OK, I have looked everywhere and cannot find a definitive answer to the following question:

 

What is the due date for the compulsory carriage of ELBs in Rec aircraft? i_dunnoi_dunno

There is no due date yet - the current exemption are in CAO 95.10/32/55 so carriage won't become mandatory until sometime after these have been reissued.

Why wouldn't you want to be found if you had a bad off-field landing somewhere?

 

It's not like a PLB is all that expensive. I bought one with a GPS (without is not worth a cracker) and a GPS as soon as I bought an aircraft. I figure it is just basic equipment. Carry them every time I fly.

After this weekend, my next purchase will be an EPIRB with GPS

 

I had an engine failure 59nm from Broken Hill and luckily managed to get it down in one piece with no further damage or injuries, but, it was isolated rugged country and I would not want to get stuck out there
