Hongie Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 gday folks, I'm brad, 26, live in walkerston, and have a great interest in getting a RA pilot certificate. As far as i know though, there are no CFI's permanently in mackay so thats a problem, although i understand some people are flying out of palmyra. If anyone has some info about training in mackay, would be greatly appreciated. cheers Hongie
Guest davidh10 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Hi Hongie Not sure if you have looked at the RA-Aus Schools Directory (PDF). That may assist in locating the most convenient location. You will also find a wealth of information on flight training on the RA-Aus web site and of course the opportunity to ask questions here:big_grin: Just looking at it myself, there's quite a few in Southern Qld (if you are looking at 3-axis) and I'm sure a site member or two who live in Qld and know the geography better will pop up and offer some advice. Per chance, there isn't a school near you, most offer custom packages that may even include accommodation at discounted rates to do a full course in a few weeks full time. That way you could do it during your holidays. Tell us more about your interest? Did you have a type (weight shift / 3-axis / gyro...) in mind? What do you want to do once you get a Pilot Certificate (local flights / fly to more distant places / mustering...)?
sandman Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Try Myles at Ballantree Aviation, he is based in Wowan CQ.
Hongie Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Thanks for your reply david. I'll check out that directory.. i'm primarly interested in 3 axis, and would love to own either an a22 foxbat, or a foxconn terrier ( which just happens to be made locally for me ). post certification goals are to fly localy, maybe fly out west a little, not really wanting to muster at this stage, purely for enjoyment. I have loved flying since i could talk, and I did a trial flight in a VH aircraft a couple of years ago, a cessna 152, and loved it, but the costs associated with GA really put me off, although i did get a CASA ARN, logbook and textbooks, i really cant justify it at this stage.. maybe if i get a RA cert. and some stick time, i'll be able to transition to GA down the track. Other then aircraft, i have a few interests.. Motorbikes, both on and off road, currently only have dirt squirters, a crf250x and a yz125. Cars, currently driving a 07 WRX. Flight sims, and other less 'serious' computer games, edit: thanks sandman, i'll look into it
dazza 38 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Welcome Hongie, this is the place to be, with all things aviation.I like motorbikes as well, i own a KTM 640 Adventure. Good luck with your training mate.
winsor68 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Jeez Hongie, Are you a lucky chap? You sound like me only 6 months ago... Good news... I am training for my Ra-Aus certificate flying from the airfield at Palmyra Dragstrip just 15 minutes outside of Mackay. PM on the way.
Hongie Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 haha yeah they look like a pretty cool aircraft.. as for the subie motor, i reckon they are a pretty good motor.. I've a subaru brumby with over 400k k's on it now, with that same motor, the ea81. well, i'm out at work now, down a big dark hole, so i'll be calling winsor68 once i'm home in a week or so, to see if i can nut out what i've got to do
