Hello!

I have friends staying away for a weekend at bright in Vic. I looked on google maps and could see a strip not far out of town.. (well it looks like a strip!)

Does anyone no what this is or what the closest one is, I couldnt find it in ERSA?

Maybe i need a copy of the country airstrip guide!

In addition to ERSA info, if you Google Porepunkah, you will find a photo of the airstrip, obviously taken from an aircraft on approach. I used it in my flight plan, as it is always nice to know what the place looks like before you get there.

Sorry, I can't post the photo, as I don't recall its source and have no rights to it.

Have you tried Mt Beauty?

G'day, Mount beauty has a great grass strip and may be a little closer to Bright. Just putting it out there, as they say. Cheers, Don

Nah Porepunka is about 6 km out of Bright, Mt Beauty probably more like 26

Regards Bill

My Wife just dared to question my judgment saying it was more like 50, so I put it into google maps, it is 27.4 km.......... ahh now she's trying to stab me with a pen

"Bright" airstrip.

It has to be Porepunka. The township of Porepunka is about 5 Km from Bright. The airstrip is another 3 Kms. All the trikes operate out of there and you would have no trouble operating a C-182. Good grass surface, single strip. Mount Beauty is a long way, across a range in a different valley. Nev.

Yeh mt beauty is a good 1/2 hour away as you have to go over the hills. The strip at bright I think is for the landing of hang gliders as they fly form the hill that is near it. Don't quote me on that but I think it is right. Have not flown into any of them but have been there several times in the snow season and to my knowledge nothing at Bright to land on.

There is an airstrip at the Bright lavender farm, but no idea of the current condition and from memory the approaches were a bit "hairy". The website used to mention it, but now doesn't (possibly for good reason!).

Porepunkah is your best bet, nice strip.

I was at Bright April/May & went for a flight on a microlight at Porepunkah. What an experience. It has a great grass strip. At the time there were a number of trikes, RAA & GA aircraft at the field, including twins. If I remember correctly, there was also an honesty tin for a $5 (donation), I think this was for overnite parking.031_loopy.gif.e6c12871a67563904dadc7a0d20945bf.gif
