dazza 38 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Hi all, a flew into a country airfield yesterday morning. There was a J 200, it looks like it is permanently park outside, with no covers not even over the windscreen. I was wondering how quickly it or any other composite A/c, handles being left outside, before they start to deteriorate.Full Aluminium A/c, go Ok, apart from sun/storm / hail damage. My question is, how quickly do composite a/c, deteriorate with no covers or protection from our harsh eviroment. Also do they deteriorate faster than Aluminium ? Ps- the airfield, i wont mention, but there is a shortage of hangars and hangar spaces avaliable. I guess the owner doesnt have a choice. The plus side of composite i guess, is no corrosion issues, apart from the metal parts, of the aircraft, but moisture ingress would be a problem, as would delamination. What do you guys think?
turboplanner Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 99% depends on the quality of the resin used. I've had a boat out in the open for 35 years which is still structurally sound, but the resin used was not standard boat specification
dazza 38 Posted July 25, 2010 Author Posted July 25, 2010 Thanks Turbo, so the quality of the resin is the Key.Cheers
