Spin Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 The Queensland Vintage Aeroplane Group & Australian Flying Museum Inc are a group dedicated to the airworthy preservation of Australia's historic aircraft. - Link Geez the pace of aviation events is hotting up, there are barely enough weekend hours to gather the points to be able to sneak off and attend them all. Wings and Wheels Spectacular on the 21st and the Festival of Flight on the 28/29th, should be enough to get going with. Hope to see some of you out there.
Spin Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 A few photos from last year to whet the appetite.......

dunlopdangler Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 We will also be going over to Watts Bridge:loopy:
davebutler Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Who else is going to Watts on the 28th & 29th?? Unless the weather plays up will be flying some of the boys from the Logan RC club to have a look on Sat.
Spin Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 Long range forecast is looking fairly promising - I thought I'd secured an exeat to slip off on my own, in which case I would have made a plan to fly in, however the rest of the family realised what they were potentially missing, so it's a drive in mission for me. RA has 1 too few seats for my stage in life dammit! I suppose I should be grateful that they enjoy my hobbies too> Dave, looks like Sat is going to be the day - what are you coming up in, I'll keep an eye out for you?
davebutler Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Hi Carl, Looking forward to Sat:clap: Will be arriving in a vintage, a 30 something year old C172, VH-TKJ:laugh: See you there. Cheers DB
Tomo Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I may be there sometime Saturday - If I am, it will be in a Yak 52.
Mick Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 If I can get over the flu that I am doing battle with I should be arriving Saturday in a 1947 vintage Stinson 108-2 Voyager, VH-RDR. I gave the owner a ride to Dalby last weekend in the Skylark so now he owes me a trip.
Scottw Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 G'day all To those flying in, now I have heard what aircraft will be arriving +rego I will try and catch you upon your arrival. Weather is looking good, the winds will be easing through today(friday) and looking forward to two days of sunshine. A couple of favourites from 2009
Mick Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Back from Watts Bridge already, unfortunately our pilot had other commitments. Weather was perfect and there was a good number and variety of aircraft there and still arriving when we left. Interesting to see the new Tecnam twin for the first time, a shame that it took 3 attempts to land due other traffic infringing on it's approach. First it was a Cessna 172 or 182 that came in on a right base when the strip in use was left circuits. Then on the Tecnam's second approach a Beech Baron ( twin ) cut in on finals causing a second go-around. Some pretty poor airmanship on display there!
Spin Posted August 28, 2010 Author Posted August 28, 2010 Yeah I'll second that, very pleasant day, fortunately not as warm as last year! Saw a few familiar faces, lots of luvverly aircraft and walked a few km up n down the flight line - once again I had competing engagements, so wasn't able to stay the night, but worth a trip anyway. Which aircraft were you in Mick, I may have a photo or two? I saw Scott and the rest of the professionals stayed up sun on the opposite side of the runway - should be some good ones to come from there yet.
Spin Posted August 28, 2010 Author Posted August 28, 2010 Only forumite I knowingly caught arriving....... Dave Butler in the C172 along with a few others that caught my eye
Mick Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Which aircraft were you in Mick, I may have a photo or two? Hi Spin, Looks like you got us leaving:clap: I was in the Stinson VH-RDR which is in your second last pic, next to the Tecnam Twin. You can't actually see me as I was hiding in the back seat. Cheers Mick
Tomo Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Great pic's Spin, unfortunately I wasn't able to make it. Good work guys.
Spin Posted August 29, 2010 Author Posted August 29, 2010 Yeah Tomo you missed a good day, don't know what today would have been like, wx here on the 'Coast is decidedly less friendly. Did DD make it? Sorry Mick, if I'd read your previous post I'd have known what you were in - didn't manage to see it parked, but here is another of the takeoff - none too sharp unfortunately, I was experimenting, trying to get a full prop disc.
Guest Sharp End Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Ms Mazda and her co-jo plus the mighty 115 Airtourer had a very good day yesterday - great weather and the bonus of a member of the crowd rushing over to tell us "I learnt to fly in your Airtourer!" Great to see so many beautiful vintage and veteran aircraft and some new and interesting ones. Also, the "baby" jet modelled on a gen one US fighter (Grumman Panter-ish) was a highlight... talk about constant thrust, variable noise!
Spin Posted August 29, 2010 Author Posted August 29, 2010 There's a pity, I didn't know what rego to look out for - saw you taxi in, but not where you parked. The mighty Airtourer and a few more that caught my fancy. Love that Pacer!
Scottw Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 G'day Spin The weather was great for the event and yesterday (sunday) was just fantastic. When I heard that the coast was was getting freshening winds during the day and a local forecast for possible showers in the afternoon I thought the day would turn less favourable but it was just wonderful at Watts.
Scottw Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Here are a couple of happy snaps I got from the weekend
