shags_j Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Hi All, Just deciding on my vote for the first time in my life (usually devout liberal). I wanted to pose the question of airport closures to my local candidates and need a bit of help wording this correctly. Just have a few questions I wanted to ask: Was it the federal goverment that originally held the leases then handed them over to the councils? Were there any requirements placed on the leases by the government? (ie. did the federal government on handing over the leases require that they be maintained for x period of time) Is there anything the federal government can do to stop the closures? (any ideas?) Cheers, Shags

Guest burbles1 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Is anyone collecting information about how to stop airport closures? Who to contact, what information to get to support your letters, which community people to get involved, past successes/failures?

dazza 38 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Hi guys, there is a write up in the latest edition of Australian Pilot magazine, it talks about Casino and Evans Head airfields. In a nut shell, casino, has a fence across the main runway. The the council allows Drag racing in the strip as well as truck testing. The same council Richmond Valley Council, the organisers are now plan to run drag racing at Evans Head.Colundra council are also refusing to extend leases Beyond 2014. John Anderson, was the politician (PPL pilot BTW) who authorised the Transfer Deed back in 1992.The deed applies to 200 ALOP aerodromes. The clause 2(p), relating to disposal of land, now removed in 2004 by John Anderson.Basicaly, his department agreed local governments could do what the want with the land ,but if they want to close the airfield, they must check with the department before doing so. Now the bad part- Local government can apparently do as it pleases and the department does not enforce the transfer of Deed. Sorry this doesnt help the thread, but i typed this for general information.I dont have any experience in this type of thing. But there is guys here, who can read this, and put their imput in on where we stand. I hope, and what direction we all should be heading, to fight all of this. Cheers
