Guest burbles1 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I have a question for all those Bantam B22 flyers in NZ. Has anyone installed a glass cockpit in the standard instrument panel? I am looking at possibly getting a B22 in the next year or so, and would like to know if it's possible to install 5" EFIS and EMS displays in the central vertical panel? Or if these can be installed elsewhere in the cockpit?
Guest Baphomet Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 As the Bantam is a '24' class factory built aircraft, any changes will need to be sanctioned by Max and Maxine at Microaviation NZ, good luck with that. (as a former Bantam owner, I've been through those hoops without success a couple of times.)
eightyknots Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Call +64 7 829 7837 and ask for Max Clear, who has been the CEO there for more than 1/4 of a century. Hopefully he will make clear/clarify the situation and clear/permit you to fit a glass panel to the Bantam instead of the standard 'steam' gauges.
Guest burbles1 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Thanks eightyknots, I'd like to see if the Dynon EFIS-D6 and EMS-D10 could be fitted instead of the steam gauges - as I trained on only glass cockpits, and the instruments probably wouldn't affect aircraft performance/CoG or place many other limitations (apart from numerous probes to the engine and an additional remote compass). I like the sound of the Bantam as it can take 240kg usable load, and there's a few engine options - just a bit unusual there's no panel options available too, especially as I think you need to offer glass panels to sell any A/C in Australia.
eightyknots Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 The lack of panel options is also an issue with me. I have a short list of planes that I wish to construct but panel options in those kits are "set in concrete". It comes with the kit and, if I want alternatives, I'm effectively buying two sets of instruments.
