Found this on CASA's website, pretty handy for those of us who will be doing our CTA training soon.

CASA has also been doing seminar sessions around the country that include this topic.

I attended one at Yarrawonga, Victoria just around the time of the 3 June changes and it was also covered in a recent one I attended at Wangaratta. Typically two topics covered per evening, which is why I've attended two seminars that contained a topic that does not affect me directly.

Tomo there is plenty of information about Class D on the CASA website, not just the on track, but an e-learning section.

CASA did seminars at Toowoomba and Caboolture Tomo!

I flew in and out of, and around Class D airports in California during my GA days over there. They are not a big deal at all, when you get used to them, and know how they work. Basically in a nutshell you have visual reporting points, set traffic proceedures, and above all you must do what the man in the tower says, it's his own little bit of airspace, and he's in charge !!. We can only hope that CASA in this country doesn't change too much to the US system, and once again stuff up a good system that works, with unnecessary BS..........................................................................Maj...024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

I did a check flight in an RAAus registered Sportstar at Parafield in 2007 with a flying School based there. Zipped in and out between the military and the very heavy metal without incident and with a great instructor.

I now own the aforementioned SportStar, and still fly it out of Parafield. Forsyth Aviation has a CASA exemption that allows "students or pilots under the control of the operator" to fly in CTA. Not just the Parafield CTR, but any CTA, if suitably trained and endorsed of course. As part of standard nav training, we go through Adelaide's class C. Obviously, the moment you are no longer under their control (whatever that may exactly mean) you lose the privilege. E.g..: finish training at Parafield, buy your own aircraft and house it a Gawler and it's bye bye CTA.

A class 2 medical is also required.

David: The engine does not have to be certified; it only needs to be on CASA's "approved" list. The 912ULS in my SportStar, as well as Jabiru engines, are on that list. All instructors at Forsyth are CPLs and also GA instructors. Most of them grade 1s with thousands of hours. That said: the exemption allows RA-Aus-only instructors that also have a PPL to do RA-Aus training at Parafield. (Every once in a while Dave mentions I should get my instructor rating...)

This is the actual CASA exemption. It's standard wording that all schools with exemptions have. (I think about half a dozen around Australia) http://www.comlaw.gov.au/ComLaw/Legislation/LegislativeInstrument1.nsf/0/574C4D7B35D925E4CA2576BD00042666/$file/CASAEX10006.pdf
