kth_logan Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hope you guys may be able to help me. I have a friend who is colour blind and is desperate to get up in the air. Medically he is fit and fine but has trouble discerning Green and Red. Is he able to obtain a recreational licence. What are the medical requirements. I understood that if you were able to hold a driving licence then medically you were fine for recreational flying... I do know that PPL and CPL are out of the question for him. He is based in Canberra and so what would be the best option for him???
Spin Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I'm open to correction but my understanding of our regs is that if he holds a drivers licence without any restrictions, he is entitled to fly recreationally. It may be worth asking about PPL medical too, I believe there has been some relaxation for colour blindness. Let's face it, isn't it only night flying where colour perception comes into play anyway?
rgmwa Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hope you guys may be able to help me. I have a friend who is colour blind and is desperate to get up in the air. Medically he is fit and fine but has trouble discerning Green and Red. Depending on his degree of colourblindness, it may be worth him doing a Farnsworth Lantern test. If he passes that he should be OK for PPL/CPL. rgmwa
frank marriott Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Class 2 medical for PPL [without night/instrument ratings] is OK I believe. Class 1 for CPL would be a problem. I have a friend with a PPL but can't pass the Farnsworth Lantern test for a CPL. Frank
farri Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 RAA Pilot Cetificate requirements. I'm open to correction but my understanding of our regs is that if he holds a drivers licence without any restrictions, he is entitled to fly recreationally. QUOTE]Requirements for issue and maintenance of RAA pilot certificate. "Sign a medical decleration every year that their health standard is equivalent to that required for the issue of a private motor vehicle drivers licence in Australia". Frank.
