Rod Skinner Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Hi there. My name is Rod Skinner and l'm a Kiwi based in Pattaya, Thailand. Got back into flying 2 or 3 years ago and completed my UPPL a year ago at 61 years young. Currently flying a CFM Shadow which is unique as it's the only one l know of that is Rotax 912 powered. The company in the UK went bankrupt while building this aircraft some 6 to 8 years ago. Main project at the moment is building one of Garry Morgan's Sierra 100's. Flying in Thailand is generally pretty good but there are a few hurdles you have to get over if you want to fly here. Unfortunately you can't just turn up with a license and fly as you have to be a named pilot on the aircraft and this can take several weeks to do. On the other side there is the night life and l'll say no more. If you are up this way and want to have a look at what we do, contact me on [email protected] Regards, Rod Skinner
facthunter Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Welcome Welcome to the Forum, Rod. Thailand would be a bit warmer than the Shaky Isles. Nev
dazza 38 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Welcome Rod, the Shadow must go well with a 912 on the back.
farri Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Rod, A student of mine purchased a Shadow as his first aircraft, It was based at my place so I got to fly it,great AC,I thought I wouldn`t like the laid back seating position but once I got in and into the air,I loved it and that little control stick on the left hand side,I had to make sure I didn`t fall asleep, the stall is almost non existant,a good AC. Cheers and all the best Frank.
Guest Crezzi Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Hi Rod & welcome I hate to ruin your exclusivity but I think there is (or was) a 912 Shadow in the UK. I bought my 582 Shadow DD from a guy who was upgrading to one. As part of the deal I had to deliver his new one from the factory in Suffolk to Northern Ireland before I could collect the one I'd bought. Under the UK microlight rules the 912 was only allowed to be a single-seater (some would it say it only was anyway !) so his had an enormous fuel tank fitted in the back. I also vaguely Richard Branson ordering 2 Shadows for some adventure he was planning at the time which might also have been 912 (I could be completely wrong though - long time ago now). Anyhow a great plane & possibly the only one from that era which still looks really cool (IMO) Cheers John
