Guest Stixy Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 After a slight problem with my first Avmap Geo11+ I have my new one now. The company was excellent and sent a new one as soon as the new stock arrived. Looking forward to taking it flying. Id love any comments from owners of this unit, as it looks well made and a nice quality item. Tks Stixy
biggles Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Hi Stixy , Would be interested to hear your comments on its operation . Does it have "wings level" indication , and how do you rate it against the Garmin 196 for instance ? Regards Bob
Guest Stixy Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Hi Biggles I havent flown with it as yet. Hopefully this weekend? It doesnt have wing level indication, but I cant see a need for that? Maybe let me know why you require that function? This is my first GPS so I will update you ASAP The Garmin 196 has a smaller screen and is not colour. Probably similar price too? Ive used the Avmap inSimulation mode, and it seems to do everything that I would ever need and more. Watch this space Stixy
biggles Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Stixy , I don't have an artificial horizon or a turn coordinator , so the "wings level" on the Garmin 196 is at least something , if you suddenly find yourself in cloud , which of course you should'nt , but .............. . Regards Bob
Admin Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 How would the wings level work unless the unit was in a "fixed" install position and set level in the install position on the ground...if the unit was portable the wings level wouldn't work or am I missing something
Guest Stixy Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Yeah Ian, the wings level feature will work in a portable unit but wont be as accurate as an inbuilt gauge. Its just a bit of a guide feature. Bob, As you say Bob...... you shouldnt find yourself in cloud. Unless you have an Instrument rating and the Aircraft was IR, I wouldnt be trusting a basic GPS to keep my wings level. I know what your asking though, and I just think that the Avmap will do everything you need, but the Garmin is probably cheaper????? Ill send you my thoughts once our weather clears here LOL!! Stixy
