Hi All

Don't know if its been posted elsewhere but.

Anyone flying in the Newcastle Hunter area, it's finally going to happen.

As of 6th Dec 2010 Williamtown Airspace will become ACTIVE 16hr, 7 days a week

Currently CTAFR at weekends (and evenings ).

This also includes G - 2500 UL over Newcastle

Our airspace is slowly eroding away ...051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

Broome and Karratha will be off-limits to the vast majority of RA-Aus pilots (those without PPL) in a week.

From November 18, 2010 both airports will have control towers from early morning to night, seven days.

For aircraft without endurance, it will also mean an end to coastal transit of northern WA.

And with Airservices evaluating remote tower operation, the situation will only get worse.

USA sport pilot certificates - the direct equivalent of RA-Aus pilot certificates - can get control zone access with just additional training and testing .. no PPL, no medical. What does CASA know that the FAA doesn't? Why should we accept anything less?

Sounds like it could be a way to "save" GA - turn free airspace into CTA and pilots will be forced to get a PPL to transit. Coupled with the fact that ADS-B is primarily utilised for controlled airspace, I think that CASA is trying to justify the expense of implementing ADS-B by opening up more controlled airspace in high density traffic areas.

High what??????? - joking

listen on willy most of the weekend and you might hear at most 3 or 4 aircraft in the whole CTA area, often you can fly through and you are the only one in the area. Compare that to Maitland/ Cessnock when it will often be a dozen or much more including a lot in circuit. Add parachute ops at both fields and it still all works fine.

Go figure

Firstly there never was a type of airspace called CTAF ®. They were just CTAFs, but some had a radio requirement, and people tended to call them CTAF ®s. However, even in that context, CTAF ®s have not existed since 3 June.

Secondly, ADS-B is not the primary tool in controlled airspace, the majority of aircraft don't have it.

I'm not sure what is happening at Willy. In the past they have closed down over Christmas but it was being reconsidered due to the RPT there.

Accepted

However the automated readback from willy during none active times has been saying "Williamtown CTAF R"

Including since June 3 018_hug.gif.8f44196246785568c4ba31412287795a.gif

So air traffic think there still is one.

By that, I meant ADS-B is a technology designed to be implemented in controlled airspace. But you knew that.

WOW Just looking at google earth and it looks like our DZ at Elderslie is only a couple of nm outside the 25mile rad. Why do they want so much airspace and right down to ground? they seem worse than the developers who are snatching airports.
