mikekk Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I don't currrently fly,, but a buddy of mine does and keeps telling me I should. Gonna be away from home for like 6 mos and would love to learn to fly. What is the difficulty level and time needed to get trained?
stanzahero Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Welcome Mike, If it was easy... every one would fly. As for time length, I'm not sure what the regs in the US are. In Australia, we have a minimum of 20 hrs including 5 hrs solo for a recreational certificate. Stanzahero.
Deskpilot Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 A few years back, we had a young chap come from Singapore with the same dream. He flew every day, all day, slept on a couch in the crew room and went into town for his meals. A week later, he returned to Singa's, one very happy, certified pilot. Not the preferred way to do it but, if you're up to it, got the time and the cash, it doesn't have to take very long at all. PS the more your do it, the easier it gets. This doesn't apply to our other pastime.
Scooby Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Hi Mikekk, Welcome! I'm reasonably new to flying and it is the best thing i have ever done. I have had some bad days and found it hard but i have a very experienced instructor who helps me every step of the way. The rewards of flying make it all worth it. My advice to you would be do your research on some schools, decide what type of aircraft you want to fly and make some phone calls. I have no idea what the regulations are in the US but here it is 20 hours with 5 of them being solo for a recreational pilot certificate. Please keep us posted if you decide to take to the skies. I wish you all the best of luck, Scoob
