deadstick Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Well, was told at work yesterday that in the interests of closer military ties the Blue Angels will be putting on a display at Wings over Illawarra 2011 (26-27 Feb 11). Usually I treat such talk as false until confirmed well at a dinner last night one of the organisers of the event confirmed that they had accepted an invitation but the details are still being sorted. Fingers crossed they bring Fat Albert, as a Herc firing JATO rockets on takeoff makes some serious noise.
Spin Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Yup I'd break out the piggy bank for that, still spewing that I heard too late about the T'birds in T'ville.
foxy Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 ah awesome... u know...ive never actually seen a wings over illawarra display... :P
motzartmerv Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Thats because it isn't a display. Its a fly in.
flyinghigh Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Awesome. Made a trip to Townsville for the T'birds, will have to do the same to Illawarra should this be confirmed!
Guest Maj Millard Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Saw the Blus many times while living and working in california in the 80s and 90s. especially during 'Fleet week' in San Francisco where the seriously beat the place up for several days. Also down at Moffit NAS south of San Fran when they still were flying the A4 Skyhawk, to great effect. They don't mess around, and their low level precision formation flying is legendary. We were very lucky last year to have the USAF Thunderbirds here in Townsville and to see the Blues again would be awsome.........................................................................Maj...
petetheprinta Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I'll wear my Citizen Blue Angels Skyhawk watch, it will be the closest I will ever get to them. LOL Pete W
