Bubbleboy Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I fly fixed wing and know bugger all about rotary. My 11 yr old son is keen on learning to fly helicopters and was thinking an introductory book on learning to fly a helicopter would be a good stocking filler for Xmas. Can anyone recommend a text that may be suitable? Regards Scotty
mechfx Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I can highly recommend the FAA Rotorcraft Flying Handbook as a first chopper book. Easy to read with excellent easy to understand graphics, and there's even a section on Gyroplanes..... Amazon.com: Rotorcraft Flying Handbook (Updated Edition) (9781602399976): Federal Aviation Administration: Books
Bubbleboy Posted December 4, 2010 Author Posted December 4, 2010 Thank you for that. That was one of the ones I was looking at as well as the Principles of Helicopter flight. Have you compared the two of those? I appreciate your comments. Scotty
mechfx Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I have both and the FAA book is more entertaining for the want of a better description. I think the graphics are more engaging making the information easier to relate to. Very unusual for a government publication. Art
bones Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 you can download the book and get it bound yourself, which i have done, i use it for flight training to give to students very good read. if needed i will find the link to the free download.
Bubbleboy Posted December 5, 2010 Author Posted December 5, 2010 Hi Guys...yes just jumped on the FAA website and downloaded it! You guys are champions! Thanks again Scotty
