Russ
The yanks are right into these yamaha engines, out of skidoo's etc. Reports are good as they are bolting them into gyros. Will track the site link, and get it here..............
fly_tornado
I thought the snowmobile engines where a bit different to the PWC. I thought they had much bigger blocks due to the superchargers and salt water.
Guest dad
From what I understand there is a heat exchanger so no salt water is drawn into the cooling system and not all watercraft engines were forced induction. The power to weight ratio is attractive with the 2 strokers being lightest. The constant revs of the watercraft is similar to aircraft usage. fly_tornado
I looked @ PWC engines in my Tornados for a bit and realised that no one was using them and didn't want to be the first. Plus the lure of a big BMW twin in a plane was strong...
fly_tornado
That's what I have been told too. there are a lot of 503 parts in the snowmobile section of ebay.
fly_tornado
that more sales speil than anything, what I find interesting about rotax is that they always start of producing engines for bike companies and once the production run is established the manufacturer drops Rotax. both BMW and Aprilia have done that. Buell used Rotax until there demise. I think KTM also use Rotax engines. I think one day Rotax is going to run out of companies.

HI mate, Rotax made a 504 engine in 1983 for the KTM and 600 engine in 1984.They also make the v twin 950/990 engine LC8 motor. My KTM 640 LC4 engine is made by KTM. ATK motor cycles that where made in the USA used Rotax engines. Back to thread-Yamaha make a 1800cc inline 4 cylinder Jetski Motor normaly aspirated. It produces 180Hp .That would be nice. Guest dad
180 hp, mmmm, I think that would be overkill for the sonex. interesting though. This needs some more investigation.

Guest ozzie
Honda have a PWC with a 4 cyl turbo around 1600cc. goes like a scalded cat. Good looking engine that screamed out to have an aircraft put behind it.
