Spin Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 "The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." - Cicero - 55 BC So, evidently nothing..
Guest Walter Buschor Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Yep, that's how it is... . The wrong people breed like flys, No one has to do what they don't want to do and yes .. lets make it right for all and please everyone and step on no one's toes. Our system is collapsing from within and we do a great job of it - as the Roman's did - all it will need is a little push from outside and the walls will come crashing down. Ah well, let's hope the weather clears and we go flying. Walter
Ultralights Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 im seeing the same with the floods, watching the reporters stand in front of the river height guage, telling us how unprecedented the flood is, how its a record flood, blah blah blah, only to see 4 higher, much higher marks on the guage from recent floods, in 1991, 1998, 1954. and 1918. nothing new here people, move along'
Spin Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Compare how well the relief has been managed for Queenslanders versus what happened in New Orleans. Chalk and cheese. There'll always be life's "victims" who stand around whining, waiting for the "welfare" or the "guvmint" to come do it all, but I have to admit to a swell of emotion seeing the footage last night of an army of people out tackling the cleanup more or less a few feet behind the retreating water. Keeping up that momentum is going to be the challenge, because there are some things that are going to take longer, but they sure have started well. Time to shut down and pack shovel and boots.
