Student Pilot Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 There was a small aircraft flying south western Victoria this morning. It was fairly high and a fair way away. It looked like a biplane, was pretty fast and sounded like a radial. The machine flew towards Hamilton at what looked like about 2,000 agl. Any ideas on what it was?
facthunter Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Silver and moving N/E over Woodend about midday. Sounded like a single row. Jacobs?. Beech Staggerwing maybe. Moving quite quickly. Nev
Student Pilot Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 Thanks Nev but wasn't a Beech, trhey are pretty distinctive. Have since found out it was a Fisher two holer
facthunter Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 SP wouldn't expect the Fisher to be going very fast. I reckon this thing was a beech. Certainly had a Radial at low cruising revs, and getting along well. There aren't many fast Biplanes ( exc. Military, and usually British & RARE ) Nev
Student Pilot Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 I should have said fast "Comparatively", it definately wasn't a Beech. I've seen a few of those, both Pratt's and shakey Jake's. The sound was a radial but slightly different sound to both mentioned. There was also a slight buzz you seem to get with ultralight or RAA Aircraft. It is definately a Fisher or Rebel Biplane and I have found out it is based near Digby.
facthunter Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Do you mean a Murphy Renegade? It's a Bipe. Where did you learn to call Jacob's ,"shakey Jakes".? It's correct but I'm curious... Nev.
Student Pilot Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 Yip I should have called it a Renegade, I will go for a drive down that way one of these days and see what it actually is. I've been round the AG game for a while and had a bit to do with radials.
