frank marriott Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Ross Exactly - trim for about 5 deg [depending on aircaft type] into dead feathered engine and trim rudder to netural and apart from the look flyes like a single. About 30 kts loss in TAS [for 150cruise aircraft] and half the fuel burn. No hidden problems - other than a lower LSA [mainly relative to IFR] on one - depending on your track this may require a deviation obviously . Landing is exactly the same - fly IAS and aircraft does not know any difference. About time you revisited the club - I find face to face much eaiser then then computer comments - a casual comment can seem like a major problem which in fact is just an observation. Cheers Frank PS: Weather permitting I will be visiting our mate Brett tomorrow
motzartmerv Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Ross, below VMCA im sure some sweat beads would appear on the forehead..lol..I thought it was rudder trim for half a ball out...;) I have been unlucky enough to be faced with a semi retracted landing gear on a non retractable, ie, a stall onto the runway which collapsed the undercarriage and bounced back into the air with the nose all but vertical. I took time to asses the options as to where to land and elected to go to a nearby sealed strip. I have to admit, enroute i was briefing my student (BFR cantidate) i considered stopping the engine over the keys , mainly to stop bits of timber braking off and causing injury. But eventually came to the conclusion that i could touch down slower with power on and also, go around should the appch get messy. It ended up ok...
