Admin Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Not sure how accurate this is knowing the media but in the news today: http://www.recreationalflying.com/showthread.php/133770-Miracle-escape-for-pilot-and-crew-as-plane-lands-on-busy-highway-Daily-Mail
facthunter Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Well it appears that it actually landed on the freeway and was loaded onto the truck subsequently. Pretty convenient way of getting it out of the way. You would think that by the time a flat-truck could be arranged another more suitable landing spot could be found. Existing comments cover it. Media inaccuracy? Sells papers....What's new?. Nev
motzartmerv Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Someone having a lend here or what??... Ive heard some doozies, but how stupid do they think we are??
Guest burbles1 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Yeah - what exactly does the last phrase mean: "nobody was any the wiser." Wiser to the facts?
Yenn Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I seem to remember that sveral years ago someone was regularly landing a plane on top of a 4WD with a platform on top. I have seen photos, but can't remember what the plane was, but something like a Drifter I think. It was done for airshows
bushcaddy105 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I saw this done at Mangalore when the SAAA had their Easter flyin there. It was a drifter landing on a platform on top of a small truck, and from memory it was a school CFI I think by name of Ray Hill.
Guest Maj Millard Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 There was also one in the States who did it with a Piper Cub, saw it at several airshows. Had two wells into which he would drop the wheels, and then take off again..................................................Maj...
Bandit12 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Here is one from the States.. And the story is here http://www.airbum.com/pireps/PirepCubTruck.html
Spin Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I remember seeing video of a Cri Cri taking off from roofracks on a Pajero, don't know that he landed back though! I have also seen the Cub on a truck trick several times, my own photos are still in paper format, awaiting scanning, however herewith one from jetphotos that I witnessed - better than mine anyway I suspect. The pilot is Scully Levin, an airline Check Capt at one stage, also known for some unusual landing habits in a Harvard, not to mention some amazing display flying with various models of B747.
LimaMike08 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 See youtube links. Jim Greenshields has done it in a few different aircraft. Got to love the commentary in the first one.
