flying dog Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Hi folks, This time I am really stuck. HTC desire 2.1 I switch on the 3G and it is connected. I then go to the GMAIL icon/widget and click. "Your email will appear shortly." Yeah, right. It doesn't. I can't delete the account as the phone says other apps need it. Strange how that works, but anyway. When I go into settings/Accounts & sync/google I get an error on the Sync contacts. There is a little error message at the bottom of the screen: Sync is currently experincing problmes. It will be back shortly. Now, something to mention: I was in the applications/manage applications and was going through clearing the caches/data stuff. I accidently cleared both GMAIL and GMAIL STORAGE. But looking at them both now they are 16.00KB and 48.00KB It is a bit annoying not having e-mail on the phone. Can someone please help me?
Guest davidh10 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 In clearing GMAIL, you deleted the saved credentials used to login to Gmail. Just needs to have the account put back. Open the GMail app. Press Menu and select Accounts. I suspect there will be no account present, so; Click Add Account button. Follow the instructions to identify your Google account and enter / save the credentials (from wherever you keep your login credentials).... Hope this helps.
flying dog Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 Thanks. No, the account details were there and I pressed menu / refresh. It said the emails would show up soon. Alas that was as far as it went. In the memory section the phone said I had 7meg left on the phone. I un-installed a 5 meg app and... Suddenly things worked. I am really going to have to update to 2.2 so I can put the apps on the SD card.
Guest davidh10 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Before updating to Android 2.2, make sure you have at least 25MB of free memory. This is a requirement disclosed in the on-line instructions for upgrading. The easiest way to free up some memory is to empty (Clear Data) for "Maps", Flickr the Browser (Internet). Note that only applications that allow themselves to be moved to the SD Card can be moved. Even then, not all of the application is moved. Data and Shared Libraries remain in memory. Never the less, I used to run with only 32MB free and now it is around 110MB after clearing the abovenamed caches, upgrading (just used the over the air upgrade) and moving some apps to the SD Card.
