Guest ozzie Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Noticed several here that use a Go Pro camera, i've had mine for a couple of months now. But i have been a bit hesitate to mount it either on the Lazair or my jump helmet. The mounts they give you have a bit of VHB contact tape on them. The stuff is good, i use it on the covering of the Lazair. But on some surfaces it just don't do it for me. Contact between the tape and mount surface has to be 100% small ripples in the surface, like the helmet, could mean bye bye $$$s. So looking at everyones setups searching for ideas to make up a low profile mount from ali' i found this product from www.cookiecomposites.com Look under camera accessories. These can be bolted on at four points. The base legs flex to allow mounting on curved surfaces. Loosen the two screws on the inner section allows the camera to swivel a complete 360 deg. ozzie
winsor68 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Hey Ozzie... How it the quality of the Gopro footage? Would you recommend it? I can't wait to see some footage of the Lazair!!!! Please please please!!! Donald
thebun_88 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I always lanyard my camera to a non-mount component so should the mount fail I wont lose the $$$.
Ultralights Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Quality is fantastic, i also use a lanyard on the camera in case it lets go, but even the suction cup mount has held up to 130 kts for an hour. I use the stick on mounts on my aircraft, never had one even come close to thinking about coming loose, actually, im starting to wonder if ill ever be able to get them off! with all bonding stuff, even goPro mounts, surface preparation is the Key, clean the heck out of the surface, degrease it, bond the mount on, then dont touch it for 24 hrs! i have had the gopro hanging out on the wing, sub zero temps, for hours after hours, and still no sign of the mounting pad coming loose.

Please please please!!!Donald Time poor! Hopefully two weeks holiday at Easter will see the Lazair get some overdue airtime. But then again not to keen on uploading 'evidence'. Nice vid of the model helicopter. The wide angle lens on the go pro means you have to be real close for good detail. They suffer in low light. But perfect for home movie footage at HD quality. There is also a just released lcd display that plugs into the back so you can watch what's being recorded ect. ozzie
