What is the expected life of the springs that secure the components in a Rotax 912?

And what will have an effect on that life?

many thanks for thoughts

G'day,

all I know on the subject is that I found and we replaced a broken spring during a preflight the other day. If I recall correctly the spring had done 400 hours.

It broke where the "apex" of the hook on one end had worn on the anchor point on the exhaust pipe.

I understand that filling them with silicone helps extend their life as it stops them vibrating.

Regards

Hi

filling the springs (along the side in a couple of "strips" ) with silicone is a common practice used on Rotax 2 strokes where vibration is very high at idle and off. I suppose it's valid for a 912 although I can't recall any recommendation for such apart from safetying.

Mine broke at 225 hours in two years. It broke where the "hook" joined the actual coiled spring part. No silicone filling.
