Graham Pukallus Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Old Station, was certainly worth the fly up, smooth all the way except the fuel stopover at Childers, conditions were interesting wind wise but that's another story. Arrived Friday arvo at 2pm, the manned tower volunteers were very helpful, it was great to be greeted to a very well organised flyin which continued all weekend. A lot of Grey Nomads and general public attended as did a huge array of special interest groups with displays and stalls, a real carnival atmosphere. Met with Kim Rolph Smith and his family, who put on a great show with the Trojan and Yak-52, both were flat out all day Saturday with joy flights. Great to meet up with so many forum identities, sorry that I missed personally meeting Maj Millard but got some great shots of his plane, 65 aircraft counted, and had the pleasure to see the Cab Sav with owners Julie and Ian. I have put together this group of photos etc that speaks volumes of the weekend. Great night Saturday around the fires in the entertainment area after watching the non stop events, eg- air operations and ground activities all day. The organisers did themselves proud with great local entertainment and competitions which continued throughout the night in various shapes and form with the locals doing what they do best. Great, First Class , Country Hospitality and Professionally organised. See you next year Graham Puk 4 3

Ballpoint 246niner Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Awesome weekend and not as cold as previous. At Longreach at the moment, sat in the 747 business end this arvo and all the pics coming on Wednesday. Thanks Old Station.

Mick Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 What a great weekend it turned out to be. I have just been through my photos and by my count 81 aircraft attended, which included the helis and gyros. Strange that we had no trikes this year. If anyone managed to get some pics from the air I would love to see them.
Yenn Posted May 27, 2013 Author Posted May 27, 2013 Good to catch up with those who made it. Glad the hard work is over, I knocked off yesterday ay 1530 after packoing up most of the marquees, thankfully the wind had dropped.

Guest Maj Millard Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 A truely magic trip for all I'm sure. Left Montpelier (Townsville) at 11 am Thursday direct to Dingo roadhouse, landing at 2.40pm, only 10 minutes behind savvy 'Cab Sav' which had departed 'Heathrow' near proserpine about the same time. I was cruising at 7 grand where I had a 22 Kt tailwind !.....the two planes overnighted at Dingo and enjoyed the amazing hospitality afforded us by the Dingo gang. We wandered across the busy highway to relieve the Dingo pub of quite a lot of amber fluid that night !.... Next morning we were joined by Lightwing 032, Titan Tornado and a Super Petrel plus bazza in his jab 230. The had pushed considerable headwinds to make Dingo despite a very early start (what a difference a day makes)..... After refuelling and relaxing in the warm sunshine we all departed for Old Station 82 nm to the East and arrived there one hour later. We were joined there by a Fuji from Proserpine and Mangrove Murry in his Xair from Marian near mackay. All up 9 aircraft from the North and a great bunch of people.......................Maj...
Guest Maj Millard Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Old Station Fly-out photos....... 1. 22kt tailwinds at 7000' to Dingo. 2. Julie and Ian wells enjoying the Dingo sunset next to 'Cab Sav"... 3. It just doesn't get any friendlier than this !!...note with complimentry fueling ute at Dingo roadhouse... 4. Most of the aircraft lined up at Dingo.. 5. Enroute Dingo- Old Station with the newly restored historic Lightwing 032 crewed by Doug Evans and navigator/wife Leslie . this is the aircraft that completed the first UL crossing of the continent from most Westerly point to most Easterly point in the 80s. Originally based at Old Station, this is her first return in many years.........................................................Maj...
