Very interesting Oz, consider this hypothetical:A poster recently suggested that if the RAA ceased to exist, we would not comply with CASA's regulations and so we would all be grounded.

Now he may be right and he may be wrong, but let's say that is the case.

So far no director has denied the RAA is bleeding at the rate reported

Several posters have said they were happy tol wait perhaps months for the current analysis to be completed

Maybe the RAA has a very big pot of cash reserves, and can wait for the report, then wait for the next meeting to discuss it and put corrective action in motion

To me it's the classic training scenario for new Executives who've shown some promise - Do you wait, then maybe not have the time to fix the problem, or to you move now. The current majority is for waiting.

So what if the pot runs out?

Well, members could be hit with a levy or series of levies, and that will go down like a lead balloon

Or...

I stress this is just a hypothetical, with no base figures, but I guess you can dream Oz.

"classic training scenerio"

Do you mean "grooming"?

Natural progression should be the go. if you have enough sunrises left on your slate.

Watching comments with interest.

I hear what Ozzie says in his post a few pages ago (sorry, been working and have not kept up with this great thread). That is that those of us who want to use the priveleges won by people like Ron Wheeler 20 years ago don't see the equity in paying a lobby group to obtain further "concessions" from CASA that we neither need nor value. The fact is that the RAA board is over represented by those who make a living running flying schools. How many people realise that the ops manual states(ed?) that a CFI MAY require a flight test when signing off a BFR? How many of us have experenced a BFR where the CFI took as fact that a person was current on the evidence of log book entries and the judgement of his peers? Don

Hey Win,There is also my Javelin (pictured in my avatar), it is in effect a strutted Mustang, both designed by Fank Bailey sadly now deceased and built by Lee Wakeland. Very similar to a single seat Thruster without the angle of incidence problems. You could knock up a self build kit in no time at all. A blinding cruise speed of 35knots and a stall about 18 knots .... yee haa.

David

Is a plan available?

I will endeavour to call the number of Eastwood aircraft tomorrow and see if its still going if nothing else turns up before then.

And time permitting tomorrow I think this 95.10 stuff might require a new thread.

OK, slightly off-topic as it's not 95-10 but if any of you potential "return to grass roots - rag & tube - low & slow" aspirants are interested, there's a R503-powered, 2 seater 'bugs in your teeth' Quicksilver MX2 on evilbay in Qld right now at less than a grand. And it's registered & legal!!

Skyrider

A couple of years ago Gary Kimberley gave me his last set of drawings for the Kimberley Skyrider, a simple rag and tube original minimum to do what i saw fit with. I could copy them and pass them on with the acceptance that they will not be used for profit or gain. If there is any interest i could contact him for his approval.

Hi David Isaac, I have known Geoff Eastwood for many years, the last I new of him was that he still lives in Goolwa, SA and I believe he still owns the Goolwa Airfield, as to whether he still produces the Tyro I am not sure but

he is well worth a call. Unlike just about every Australian designed 95-10 aircraft, The Tyro was fully certified so that it could be purchased factory built and also met the stringent requirements required to be certified.

It was of course available in kit form. There were many Tyros flying in SA in particular with many owner modified versions of their kit built Tyro. We had for or five (all different) based at Truro Flats. I never like the Tyro for different reasons but on one occasion when for financial reasons I had to sell my previous aircraft, a certain Tyro owner at our airfield was fed up seeing me walk around looking very despondent so he started up his aircraft, slapped a hat on my head and said go fly the bloody thing. Well I had so much fun, it was easy to fly even easier to land, so some time later I bought it from him. Remembering speeds however was a bit tricky....climb out at 45 knots full power then nose down and throttle back then cruise at 45 knots. This is a very draggy aircraft so it was throttle back to 3,000 revs for landing, nose down and approach at 45 knots. My Tyro had a few mods such as a longer (fuselage) read tail boom, an improved nose pod and a hand brake that activated both wheels I also lengthened the joystick to give me lighter controls. We still have two Tyros at Truro Flats one fully enclosed. I did not have wing tanks (some did) which gave me 2.5 hrs endurance with a Rotax 447.

It is simple Frank, CASA want to be able to make everyone traceable if they need to hunt you down. Everyone except GA pilots who are on file directly with CASA, so they are covered by them. Everyone else RC flyers, Glider pilots, HG and PG some trikes, Gyros, skydivers and us all have to be members of the applicable association or regulating body. Obvious that this is so every one is kept up to date with changes of operations and regs plus if you do something wrong you are more easily found for punishment. About two years ago i had a Scout owner contact me looking for parts we started talking about things and he had never heard of the AUF and RAAus. He was off the grid so to speak. So there must be a few more in the same boat. He had a Mk 2 Scout. Owned it since 1980. Self taught never pranged it just replaced bits and pieces as needed with what he had on site. Typical remote cockie. Try and get him to cough up dollars for what he don't need, i am sure he will sik the dogs onto who ever turns up at his door to try and collect it. Would i ever 'dob' him in? Bloody never! And i would go after anyone that would.ozzie

Hi All interested in 95.10

Yes, you can still purchase a new Tyro ( or a kit ) from Geoff Eastwood from Goolwa SA on 0427 812 422..... Many complain that we seem to be losing our "Grass Roots" aircraft but the simple answer is to find an aircraft that fits the category and get it in the air. An earlier post by Guernsey gives a brief rundown on the Tyro and how it is a joy to fly and also some photo's. http://users.chariot.net.au/~geastwood/

Best Regards
