Guest rxbrumby Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Hi, Im thinking of heading up to Lake Eyre over easter. The problem is that I can only make it if I can refuel at Pt Augusta, but I dont have an asic card and dont have the time to get one before Easter. I cant carry any extra fuel containers with me as my Wifes Uncle will be coming with me. Is there some way to meet someone there to help us out? Scott
kaz3g Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 If you can't sort out entry to YPAG, you might try phoning the Flinders Ranges Council 08 8648 6031 to inquire about facilities at Quorn. If you can't get fuel at the airfield, it's only 4 miles into the town and I guess you can get PULP there. All the reports suggest the desert is blooming better than ever before and I'm hoping to get back through there around August on the way to WA via the Alice. kaz
SteveA Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Hi rxbrumby, Have you considered Port Pirie.... excellent avgas facility there it's self serve. Next stop could be Arkaroola.... another pilot friendly strip. Then onto Marree. Hope this helps
Guest rxbrumby Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I am going to stop at port Pirie, but I don't have the fuel capacity to fly nonstop from there to marree. Last time I flew up there I was able to get fuel at Leigh creek, but the fuel tank has been removed from there now. If I carry any extra fuel in cans it means that we cannot carry anything else with us other than underpants and camera.
Tonym Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 You could call and ask if the guys at Rawnsley Park Station were prepared to help you. Its just on the south wide of Wilpena Pound (about half way between Port Pirie and Maree and last year they had AVGAS from a pump. Nice place to stop for the night too. They may only offer fuel if you're staying over but couldn't hurt to ask.
Jabiru Phil Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Port pirie then William creek last I heard Maree fuel not available Roxby could be an option but phone first what's your range?
Guest rxbrumby Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Thanks for the suggestions. Im now looking at stopping overnight at Arkaroola as they will supply fuel. last time I went I was able to get fuel at Marree from the charter guy. Other wise I should be able to make it from Arkaroola to William Creek for fuel. I have only got a 50L tank and I work on 16L ph but it usually only uses 13Lph.
Gnarly Gnu Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Crazily enough I believe Olympic Dam (Roxby Downs) requires an ASIC. It's on the list any rate. Wow 50 litres is not much more than a good bladderful eh.
Guest Tsemler Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 RX, You could try the Port Augusta gliding club, i believe their airfield is a km outta Stirling North. http://sacommunity.org/org/207855-Gliding_Club_Port_Augusta You might be able to get some fuel from them perhaps? or they might know someone that could help you out.

flindersflyer Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Another alternate is Quorn. No fuel at the field but I could pick you up, take you in to Quorn, pick Prem ULP and take you back. Just a phone call to help out. 088648 6093 Regards F/Flyer
Gnarly Gnu Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Welcome Flindersflyer, great to see someone from the mid north on here!
flindersflyer Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 RXBRUMBY, Did you manage to get to Lake Eyre? How was your trip and did you get the fuel stuff sorted?
