Guest davehw Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Hello fellow builders of Sierra 100 aircraft. We have just completed the aileron mass balance arms on current build, and have managed to make them fully faired, including aluminlum arm, in neutral position. Every little bit of reduced drag is a bonus. Attached photos show aileron in neutral, full down at 15 degrees, full up at 25 degrees. Arm assembly is removable with 5 screws into 5 rib 10/32 anchor-nuts. Balance weight is removable with 2 10/32 csk screws & lock-nuts . As you will realize most of the time in flight, aileron is at or close to neutral.Balance weight is positioned just below skin about 1/4 inch for those minor travels up and down in cruise, and remain streamlined. Up aileron is assisted with drag from flat frontal surface of balance weight, to compliment turn. cheers, Dave.
jon Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Hi davehw I am giving some thought to the Sierra 100. Yours is probably finished and flying by now. How did you find the build experience overall? Was cost as you predicted? How did the registration process pan out? Cheers jon
Guest davehw Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Hi jon, you are you, The Sierra 100 is not flying just yet. There is still the canopy to fit, and get the upholstery and paint job done. This aircraft has taken roughly 800 hours to date. Cost was higher than estimated, due to own choice of additions, and other events. Build experience was a mixed affair. for details on this you can contact me at email: regards, Dave.
